    Which immersion chiller for keggle?

I have the 5-10 split and it works great. I don't whirlpool, never did. Copper cleans up nicely in a bucket of star san.

Disappointed with dry hopping using SS ball

I picked up one of these intending to use it with pellets and I'm curious what other peoples results are with them. My only concern would be that the hops are packed too tight once the soak and aren't loose enough to get utilized effectively.

    My first 'big' beer- questions

I've recently started doing all-grain brews, having just kegged my 3rd. My first 3 AG brews were pretty basic, a Kolsch, an IPA, and an altbier, so on Brew Day this weekend I thought I'd try doing a higher gravity double-IPA. I'm quite fond of Brew Dog's 'Hardcore IPA' so I found a clone recipe...

    Help choosing brew kettle

+1 to getting a wort chiller, as cooling 5 or more gallons is a lot more difficult and time consuming than 2.5. Unfortunately going up to full boils requires some investment in gear. You can mitigate the cost by acquiring an old beer keg and converting it to a keggle. Ask around at liquor...

Another "Is My Beer Infected - Should I Dump It" Thread

Seems to me that if you were already attempting an all grain batch you're plenty ready to be doing 5 gal batches. The principle is the same only you end up with more beer in the end :) As for steeping grains, I always considered that part of extract brewing. They're not complicated to use, they...

    Top of wort chiller exposed

I purchased a '5/10' wort chiller, which is basically a double height coil with a slight separation in the middle, made to work with 5 or 10 gallon batches. I've only done 5gal batches with it so half of it is always sticking out of the wort and had zero problems. I drop it in 15 mins before...

how long is too long dry hopping in secondary

I brewed an IPA last October, had it in primary for a couple weeks, then put it in secondary and dry hopped it. Life got in the way and it sat there in secondary until March. I decided it was time to see if it was still any good so I tasted a sample. It wasnt bad at all, might as well bottle it...

    Sanitizing bottles?

My dishwasher is a cheapo so no sanitize option, but it makes a great drying rack after the bottles have been submerged in sanitizer.

Bayou Classic KAB4 - Best Source?

I haven't done a 10 gallon batch yet, but I've boiled 7 gallons in it pretty quickly.

Bayou Classic KAB4 - Best Source?

I brew with a keggle and use this: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100121665/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 Works great and is $30 cheaper.

Where in the world do you find used kegs?!?

Go to a liquor store or distributor that sells kegs of beer and ask if they have any broken or worn out kegs they wouldn't mind getting rid of. I went to a liquor store that sold kegs and asked them. It turned out they had two kegs from a brewery that their distributor no longer carried. The...

    SG 1.060 FG 1.022 - bottle it?

The outdoor temperature went up to 70 today so I'm going to take that as a message from the gods to warm it up and let it go another week :) Thanks for the input!

    SG 1.060 FG 1.022 - bottle it?

It's been pretty cold in lately, the temp has been around 65 steadily where the fermenter is, probably on the low side of things. It tasted fine when I tried it yesterday but I think it could be a bit more dry. I guess I'm just curious if another week would make a difference since the...

    SG 1.060 FG 1.022 - bottle it?

It's a dark porter-style ale, I used the Wyeast 1098 'British Ale' strain. It's been in the fermenter 3 weeks and the gravity hasn't changed since I checked it last weekend. It's been pretty cold in the house lately. I tried a taste and it seemed pretty mild alcohol-wise. Do you think with...

Bayou Classic SP-10 ok to use with keggle?

I recently scored a couple of beer kegs that I plan to convert into keggles and I'm in the market for a propane burner. I'm seeing the Bayou Classic SP10 for sale at Home Depot for $53 including shipping and it looks like a good deal. Is the SP10 sufficient for using with a keggle or do I...
