whats the best available software? Beer Smith?

Try several of them. Use beersmith's trial license. Use brewersfriend for a bit. Use brewtoad. Use brewtarget. Brewing software is really a work flow engine. There are some other bells and whistles like writing recipes, but it really comes down to the work flow. All the brewing software makes...

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

I can try, but I am really going to need more information. Your operating system, version of brewtarget, any details you can provide about error messages, behavior, etc. Mik

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Which download link are you using? The ones I tried seemed to work from http://www.brewtarget.org/download.html Or are you using the sourceforge link in the sticky on this section? I've asked for that to be changed, but it looks like it is still incorrect. Mik

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Let me think on that. If there isn't a fix, I will try to make one. Mik

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Thanks for the feedback. We are aware of the restore/rollback problem and trying to find a solution. It is a tough nut to crack because it only seems to happen when you've installed brewtarget, not when running it from a build dir like most of the developers do. This is my top priority at the...

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

The temp database will always be created. Basically, when you open brewtarget we copy the db into the temp. At the end of the session, when we ask if you want to save your changes, if you say "no" we copy that temp db back. If you say "yes", we are supposed to delete the temp. I am guessing...

    Brewtarget and Mash Wizard problems

Would you mind opening a ticket at https://launchpad.net/brewtarget and including the XML export of the recipe? It will help me figure out if I need to fix code or if I need to fix the manual. Thanks, Mik

    Brewtarget and Mash Wizard problems

Well. As much fun as it is to blame the user, give me a bit of time and let me dig into this. I will claim that the saved mashes are ... ummm ... well, I don't use them. I never found they saved any effort over creating the mash for each recipe. I also found them fairly confusing. The manual...

What do you use brewing software for?

I use it as an excuse to write code. :)

    Software available

Would you mind updating the brewtarget link to be http://www.brewtarget.org ? We haven't been on sourceforge for a few years now. Thanks, Mik

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Thanks for the compliment and thanks for reporting the bug. I will open the ticket and look into fixing this. Again. Because I really thought I had alread fixed this. Mik

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Well, to be honest about it, there isn't any reason. It was a bug. It looks like it was introduced in v2.0. It should have been fixed in v2.1. If you are on 2.1 and still seeing it, let me know and I will attempt to fix it again. Mik

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Ugh. Windows is not my best platform. At a guess, it sounds like you need to copy the database file out of \program files\brewtarget and to anywhere that isn't \program files. Our expected default is C:\Users\[users]\AppData\Roaming\brewtarget. I would probably copy the old database into...

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

If you select all of the recipes in the tree, you can then right click and select "export". This will export all your recipes to a file. You can then import them into the new version. You will lose brewnotes. I will fix that just as soon as I get a few other things done. Same will work for...

    Wish List for Brewtarget

Help me write it better. Go to About -> Manual and tell me what's missing. One of the big problems I have when writing documentation is I know the code. I tend to not explain it so that somebody who doesn't know the code can figure it out. This is why professional dev shops never let the coders...
