I brew lots of different recipes and styles. I try to stay away from novelty beers and really expensive beers like those with fruit additions.
I keep a log of everything I tried and I also keep a list of my favorites. Once you find some favorites, brew those more often.
Once you have...
Amarillo is described as "citrus" and it does smell lime-y to me. Citra is described as tangerine. Simcoe is described as piney and grapefruity. Ahntanum is also described as citrus and floral.
Has anyone tried this recipe with anything other than Cascade or German Noble hops?? I am curious if anyone thinks it would be tasty with Citra, Simcoe, or Amarillo. I have some new hops and I am starting to feel like *everything* uses Cascade. :) Not sure if it has the body to support a citrus...
Mikeho thanks for the reply. I don't mean to say I think your method is bad at all, just it seems that cocoa powder may be more effective.
I'm going to follow the lead of Jtd6628 on this small variation I think:
2oz of cocoa powder sounds about right for starters.
I have heard some...
Again not to spam the thread but I think it's not very nice to tell people this is safe to make without sanitizing your berries. Sure it's easier, and some people have had success but it also sucks to waste $40. Either sautee the berries or use camden.
I REALLY wish this info was in the...
So you added grounds at flameout and actually made coffee for the keg?

It seems like cocoa powder is the easier and more...
I am trying to brew this today and I am having a really hard time with this recipe. Some people are saying 30 IBU's, some are saying 60.
When I enter this recipe into Brewsmith, it shows the est abv to be 10.4%. Plus everything is way out of style for an American Stout. Is that the correct...
Munich 10L seems to be more common for most people. I don't keep Munich 20L in my grain closet, and I would prefer not to start buying it. If you used Munich 10L in this recipe instead, would you change anything at all? Perhaps add a touch more Caramel 60? I was thinking 12oz instead of 8. Would...
Wow I can't believe I've never brewed Orfy's or your version of his Mild recipe. Thanks very much for posting, and thanks for the extra info about 2-row+victory vs marris otter, that is very helpful.
NB is so out of stock. :)
I was able to find some leaf here at Barley N Vine: Hops - Beer Brewing Ingredients
A little spendy but oh well. Just be sure you don't select in-store pickup! hah
Thanks for the replies guys, and Thanks again EdWort for all your great contributions to the site. Made it up yesterday, looked great. A lot of pale ales appear pretty dark for me, considering the name! I'm fine with the color, was just curious.
