    Nano - build out!

We don't ever filter our beer, nor use anything but kettle finings. Gravity, time and temperature are all we need! Thanks and hope to see you here again soon. That was a blast!

    Nano - build out!

Chill, rack to kegs brite beer, force carbonate in the kegs one at a time, 40# CO2 for ~ 16.5 minutes per 1/2 bbl. Easy peasy. Been doing it for a year now.

15 gal conical I put together

I reposted my blog post on the valves and use of the cones at www.hessbrewing.blogspot.com. Look for the post, Conicalus for the Restivus. Are you talking about the bottom port, or side port? If you bought the right version (FD - full draining, see my write up) there is no huge plastic nut...

Big pots, Big burners - what's recommended?

It does work and works well. For our volumes - running off 61 gallons (hot measurement) into our kettles and firing the burner off with about 10 gallons in the boil kettle, it gets the wort to a boil just a few minutes after our 90 minute lauter. It has no problem boiling the crap out of the...

    Black IPA/Cascadian Water Adjustments

Trying to figure out how to get there from here...how do you balance between Residual Alkalinity for a SRM of 25ish while keeping the Chloride to Sulfate ratio down at 0.30 and 0.50? I assume the target is still Burton-y, but there seems to be an internal conflict there... Can you do both...

    Tubing for my new system

I use 3/4 in my brewery. I had to buy a 50 or 100' roll, can't recall, I think 50'. How much do you need? Maybe I can just sell you some... I got it from: sani-techwest.com

    Brew Day Worksheet

Does anyone have any idea how to/what software to use to recreate Mosher's Mash Time & Temperature table that he has on this sheet: http://radicalbrewing.com/rbws1.pdf I want to modify it for a narrower range of temps and a shorter time period. Thanks in advance!

    Building whirlpooler w/Therminator and pump

Yea BobbyT, you can recirc to create and maintain your WP and do your final WP hop addition. This has the added advantage of sanitizing your Therminator so you don't need that extra step. About 10 minutes before flame out, turn on a recirc loop consisting of: kettle out > Pump > Therminator >...

    Building whirlpooler w/Therminator and pump

I think I'd line it up with the cooled wort going through the immersion chiller in the bucket - you'll get far more cooling than you would in trying to cool rushing hose water. I used to recirc my Therm output back into the kettle, but that was because I couldn't chill it single pass (I'm in...

    NanoBrewery build

Check out my blog on this. I think it should be helpful. http://hessbrewing.blogspot.com/2010/06/conicalus-for-restivus.html

See if this helps any of you: http://hessbrewing.blogspot.com/2010/06/conicalus-for-restivus.html Cheers, Mike

Now that I can relate to. Thanks for the tip!

    Big, big starter

I'm pretty sure that after three days getting fed 02 on a stir plate, then one day in the fridge doesn't starve my yeast into dormancy. Also, there are two people replying back on this post, me, mikefromcu and Passedpawn. You are mixing and matching our techniques and approaches. You won't...

    Big, big starter

Thanks Gary. I open this next Wednesday, the 7th. Yea, to the question earlier about why cold crash - exactly what was stated - I don't want to dump 9 liters of junk, unhopped, warm fermented, wrong grain bill, highly oxygenated beer into my hand crafted wort. That's almost 2.5 gallons of...

Show us and rate your wort chiller - plate style

Hose water in SD right now is about 78*, so here's what we do: Whirlpool >> pump >> Therminator (hose water full force) >> Convoluted Copper Coil in ice bath in Hot liquor Tank >> Fermenter. I can pump over with the valves wide open at 30 seconds a gallon, meaning I can knock out a whole...
