I want to hear about your "yeasty experiments".

Would like to hear any recipies/stories about experiments with yeast and beer. For instance, has anyone ever mixed champagne yeast in with beer? Has anyone ever used some of the wine yeasts that ferment to 20% to make beer? Have you experimented with mixing yeasts? Have you...

    Keg, no fridge, no problem?

So,I took a break from brewing and I turned my kegerator back into a freezer. I'm back brewing again but I really like my freezer as a freezer and I dont want to buy another one. Is there any reason I cant just use my keg setup warm?? When I want beer, I will just fill up a growler and stick...

Whoops.... stupid stupid mistake, maybe not so bad after all?

Ok, I normally brew beer and havent brewed in a while. I assumed all of my carboys were 6.5 gallons so I took a "wine kit" I had and measured "6" gallons and marked it. I realized later when my OG was off (OG is 1.09 was supposed to be 1.06) that there must only be 5 gallons in there and I...

Mead with "legs" & high alcohol content.

Ok, so I have been brewing beer for a while and I am pretty good at that process. I once traded someone some brew for some "prickly pear cactust mead" and it was the BEST stuff i've ever had, I LOVED it. This stuff, while still needed a bit of aging, was great. It had a high alcohol content...

Doing full boil, how much water for boil off.

This would have been perfect except I already brewed :) I used 6 gallons and was 1/4 gallon short so I boiled it and added after. Gravity was spot on. Thanks all for the replies.

Doing full boil, how much water for boil off.

Ok, does that take into consideration the 7lb's extract & 1lb DME (which if I remember equals 3/4 gallon)?

Doing full boil, how much water for boil off.

Sorry guys, its been a while since i've done this. My recipe calls for 5.25 gallons of wort. I am doing a full biol in a turkey fryer outside with the temp being about 55 degrees. The recipe includes 7 lbs extract + 1lb light DME. I will of course boil with the lid off during the full 60...

My IPA is arriving from AHS tomorrow and I am gonig to brew the beer tomorrow and I cant wait. I have lots of good equipment and was pretty into brewing a while back. Unfortuanatly, I thought the stuff was going to arrive sooner than 2 weeks and thought i would have time to make a starter! I...
