HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

True - but the power port (like the USB port) extends beyond the edge of the board, and without a hole to poke through, the board will not sit correctly in the printed box. It is too far recessed. wBarber69, thanks for the thoughts on some of the Arduino problems. The board does have an Arduino...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Many thanks to the hundreds of users contributing to this thread, and of course, Fuzee for what I can only imagine is hundreds of hours tied to the original post and constant response through more than 5,500 posts in this thread!! Some thoughts on the process for me, and some quick context...

    it's a brutus 10!

I went with a 4-pin audio connector from radio shack. it's for a HAM radio typically, but I wanted it for the 4 ports. that plugs in to the box on my stand carrying BOTH valve signals. I did this because I had some cable laying around which was 2-wire and 2-wire molded together. you know...

    Big Sky Brewery Farmhouse saison

LOVE this beer. any tips on grabbing the yeast from an unfiltered beer instead of bottle conditioned? I have a couple 12 ozers of this - but no sediment to start with. Curious if the process is slightly different. edit: a guy in my local club said he's been told Big Sky carbonates with a...

    it's a brutus 10!

Drew, I did a lot or research, but I have a pretty solid background in basic electrical work through theater, A/V and physics classes (15 years ago, ha). most of this stuff is pretty straight-forward low-voltage DC circuits. think of your switches and receptacles as 'in' and 'out'...

    refractometer down!

nothing good. slipped on wet floor, slipped out of my hand. just embarrassing, really.

    refractometer down!

sad panda. anyone else willing to admit a stupid mistake like this and how you fixed it? I'm thinking superglue is the only possible solution; it's plastic on plastic.

    Plate Chiller efficiency problem

thanks for the feedback. The water is flowing correctly, unrestricted. I am indeed recirculating wort back to the kettle for 20-30 minutes (depends on beer type) after knockout. I will move a ball valve post-chiller and see if that helps. don't know how I haven't thought of that yet!

    Plate Chiller efficiency problem

I have a pump-fed 40-plate chiller on my brewstand, and it took me 90 minutes to get my 10-gal batch down to 85 degrees at a trickle. I've gotta be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. groundwater is 55-60 degrees year-round here, and I've set up a recirc for the cooling...

    honeywell VR8200 no fire

yes. My problem was a voltage drop between the switch, LED indicator light and the PID/valve. I had a DPDT switch, so I just sent one side to the LED indicator and the other side to either the cable tie (for direct fire) or the PID (for auto fire). That did the trick. edit: incoming voltage to...

    it's a brutus 10!

Hall, yes, the VR8200 valve can sit on a rigid piece of gas pipe. The unit comes with an adapter for that. That's not a bad idea, actually - but I don't know if I'd want my valves down that low. edit note: It might be a little late now, but if your unit will be on LP you might be far better...

    it's a brutus 10!

Carl, It's 1.5" tube, at (I'm pretty sure) 1/8" thickness. This project goes back quite a while, and I did it with a friend who fabs stuff who took some of what he had laying around in his garage, and bought what was needed to match it. I designed mine to be built to handle keggles, or...

My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

my build is complete. first brew is 9 days away! pics/write-up here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/its-brutus-10-a-363645/ Thanks for answering all my questions.

    it's a brutus 10!

Grr. They showed up on my screen when I posted but now looking from a different CPU, it's blank placeholders. I'll try again later. No time now. #showoffFAIL {edit} got em. had been copy/pasting the wrong link. Guess it's been longer than I thought since my web coding days in HS. Thanks for...
