    Imperial Apple Cider

it will poop out at a certain point, yes. The point at which the pooping-out occurs will depend on the yeast used. And really, you only need to do that if you are planning to backsweeten it. I assumed that you were talking about pretty high octane stuff. If you are staying in the single digits...

    Imperial Apple Cider

I've made a few high power ciders and have used a couple types of sugars. I just bottled a batch of brown sugar cider a week ago. I used four gallons of juice and eight pounds of brown sugar (boiled in 1 gallon of water). The apple flavor is pretty subtle, and the brown sugar is very...

    Blueberry Mead

I actually compared some frozen blueberries and some fresh blueberries from the store (safeway), and found that the frozen ones had a lot more flavor. I know that a lot of commercial fruit is picked slightly too soon and then ripened during/after transport, so that may have been why. The...

    Blueberry Mead

Just bottled a batch of Mead (it may not technically be considered Mead). It came out pretty good so I figured it was post-worthy. 12 Pounds Clover Honey 4 Gallons water (I used tap) 1 Gallon Blueberry Juice 5 tsp DAP (at the start, one week and two weeks) Wyeast 4632 Dry Mead About 5...

Gravity points from apple juice concentrate

Ok, thanks! I know you already told me that in the last thread I started, but I wasn't sure if that only applied to one type of sugar. I take it that's the blanket number for all sugars? So if my concentrate has 174g sugar per can, it will take 2.6 cans to get a pound of sugar. 46 points...

Gravity points from apple juice concentrate

I have a 5 gallon batch of apple wine going in primary right now. I've added a few cans of apple juice concentrate to it since I took the OG reading, and I'd like to be able to determine the ABV. My question is, how many gravity points will a can of apple concentrate add? I searched around...

    adding sugars after OG reading

    Awesome, thanks!

    adding sugars after OG reading

Ok, thanks for the info. So if I understand that correctly, one pound of sugar in one gallon of water would result in a gravity reading of 1.046, or one pound in 5 gallons would be 1.009? or am I missing something?

    adding sugars after OG reading

I'm on my third batch of cider, and have kind of a general question about gravity readings. There are a few recipes out there that call for additional sugars to be added during fermentation. If you add more sugars between the OG and FG readings, how does this addition factor in when...
