By dead space I mean the amount of water/mash left at the bottom of the tun that will not drain out because of the height of the manifold which when measured w/ 5g only drained 3.5 leaving 1.5 at the bottom.

Just wired up my new johnson a419. It appears to be working. When it powers on it flashes C03, then flashes 212F asd. It then cycles the power and flashes SF OP. The wiring guide say its a probe failure being open. Anyone deal with this before. I have the probe wired to sen and com posts...
Put a IPA kit into my bucket yesterday. I see a lot of action inside the bucket, but air lock isn't bubbling yet. I'm assuming I have a leaky lid. Is there anyway to find out where its leaking or will the Co2 level get high enough to start the air lock? Is there going to be any issues with...
