Check out the Open AdrBir project in the automated brewing section. It started life as a Braumeister control panel clone. They have since added support for a 4-line LCD and other features, but it looks like the code still supports the 2-line Braumeister type control.
You are right, it doesn't...
Here is an example of an Arduino shield hand wired. This is similar to what the ArdBir is based on. It is not too complex, and I have brewed many batches with it.
I had the same set up. Mine had an inner basket that I drilled larger holes in. I had to restrict the flow on the pump to about 75%, but still had problems with recirculation. Then I purchased a bag from High Gravity...
The Blichmann auto sparge looks like it might work well in you mash tun to control the level. Good luck on the basement and congrats on the new addition to the family.
Cool looking set up. One question on the RIMS: how do you control the flow to keep the pump from pumping all of the water out of the kettle and exposing the element?
Steve Matheson created the Brauduino which is basically a Braumeister clone using an arduino. I copied and modified the code for my system which is a two vessel system very similar to what is here.
The code is posted on github: https://github.com/mdwilson/braumiser-controller/tree/master...
I'm using a spa panel as my GCFI. It is about $80 from Lowes. I have it set up as an extension cord from my dryer outlet to my garage. Mine is a 3-wire system. It is a dedicated circuit from the breaker panel to the dryer outlet and I am not running any current through the neutral (no 120...
I sparge only to get to my initial boil volume.
I'm lazy and don't calculate grain absorption. I just start with 7 gal. of water and when I'm done mashing, I see how much is in the boil kettle and add hot tap water to the the grains to "sparge", to get to my initial boil volume of 7.5 gallons.
A 2-vessel e-rims system is what I built:
https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f235/revised-2-vessel-system-488123/
The first batch with this system came out great. The system started out as an e-BIAB system and can easily be converted back, or converted to 3-vessel. This came in handy when one...
There is a 1" copper male pipe fitting that is silver soldered to the bottom of the mash tun. It is also reinforced with a copper washer that is silver soldered to the bottom side of the mash tun.
The stand pipe has a copper female pipe fitting that threads into place. The female fitting...
I did batch sparge on my first batch. Just dump water over the top of the filter.
When the mash is over the wort returns to the brew kettle through the pump which is now turned off. It doesn't return through the stand pipe at this point. There is not much wort left in the mash tun after it...
I calculated 73%. I got 1.063 OG into the fermenter with 5.3 gal of wort from 13 lbs of grain.
I did do a 1.5 gallon batch sparge with hot tap water to reach my target boil volume.
