Obviously as one of the developers for BrewTroller I'm biased. I do think the DIY component of BrewTroller is made into a bigger issue than it really is. The BCS comes with an enclosure and power supply and the BrewTroller doesn't. Both the BCS and BrewTroller require you to wire up your sensors...

dozer: Absolutely. I was referring to the item in the intial post. If the intent was to go toward BrewTroller, spending $40-60 on a temporary alternative versus the $80 for BT might not be the best choice. BTW there is a PC companion program (BTRemote) for the BrewTroller if a full PC...

This isn't much cheaper than a BrewTroller. Keep in mind you don't need to use every feature of BrewTroller when you start. You can use it to monitor temps and control a few pumps.

Has anyone figured out how to make a cheap steam jacketed boil kettle yet? You could eliminate the elements in the boil kettle and use a boiler for direct mash heat and to feed the kettle jacket.

Our source is your source so feel free to use whatever is valuable for you. For my system a standalone setup was a requirement. I don't want to bother with trying to sync up with a PC local or remote. I just want to turn it on and go. As for loading of recipe data... I'm working on the input...

PhylanPan, We will put together an itemized list of parts and costs for each. A big variable will be your system design. How are you heating your HLT? Do you have a recirculating mash system? etc.
