    BIAB = cloudy wort?

    Thank you! I'll continue as planned then.

    BIAB = cloudy wort?

    I am planning on doing my first all grain batch this weekend, only 10 liters, so I plan on using my large grain bag in the 15 liter kettle. But it is one thing about the BIAB-method that I can not get my head around. Isn't the grain bed in normal sparging supposed to filter the wort, so it...

    Experience with Weyermann "Vienna Red" extract?

    I hope it is OK to bump this thread. Did noone try this extract? It is supposed to be Vienna malt, Malanoidin malt and Pilsner malt in it. Would it generally be better to use at lest some steeping grains here, or can I try this LME as it is? /matti

    Experience with Weyermann "Vienna Red" extract?

    So, while my first attempt is getting better and better in the bottles, and the second is bubbling away in the fermentor, my wife asked me to brew a Brooklyn Lager clone as the next one. Since winter is coming and we have plenty of places in the house with different temperatures, I thought...

    Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

    Well after sleeping on it, I woke up remembering that I diluted the wort (I only boil 12 liters) before measuring OD. 1. Poured clean water onto the wort in the fermenting bucket. 2. Measured OD. 3. Pitched Yeast. 4. Stirred the wort. I suspect that undiluted wort lay at the bottom of...

    Neophyte just wants to check 1st recipe

    An update. I tasted the first bottles yesterday and as my first try in homebrewing, it was already great! Maybe a bit "raw" tasting. But I figure it will change over time. I ended up with Wyeast 1969 and it is amazing how hard the cake in both the fermentor and the bottles became. I don't really...

    Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

    Yes. The problem is that I already brewed it. And the OG came out too low. So If I dilute it to the correct volume, the OG will be too low, if I don't the IBU will be to high. I am beginning to understand this problem now, probably a classic one for some people here. /Matti

    Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

    Well I am a bit curious how it would turn out. But I haven't found any examples of beers this hoppy with this low OG. Doesn't anyone think it will be a disaster? /matti

    Folks favorite bottles...12, 16, or 22 oz?

    I have two 25 centiliter-bottles. That is 8.5 oz. Only problem is that it was that belgian cherry ale with aspartam that I really can't stand that came in it. I like the bottles, so maybe I will buy the beer for my father who likes sweet stuff... /matti

    Hydrometer reads wrong, can it be fixed?

    Mine is +4 wrong. I simply take that into consideration when measuring. /Matti

    Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

    So, I brewed this today and it came out too low on gravity. Can I save it? At 18 liters it is 1.051, which is OK, of course. But since I measured it before diluting fully with water, my Beer Alchemy says it now will have an IBU of 48. It sounds a lot for a beer at 1.051, doesn't it? I like...

    Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

    OK, great. Since this is going to be quite light in color, maybe it is too bitter at 37 IBU? Can the EK Goldings and Cascade go well together like this? /matti

    Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

    While I wait for my first beer to carbonate in the bottles, I would like to brew something new from stuff I already have. Will try a small partial mash with grainbag this time and aim for an american pale ale. I didn't find a recipe that matched my ingredients. But do you think this can be...

    Should I rack again or wait or bottle?

    This is my first cider. Made from my own apples. I racked it last weekend after three weeks fermenting. It had a thick layer at the bottom. Yeast and particles from the apples. Well, the cider tasted great! Dry, with the right ammount of sourness and bitterness, or what I imagine what would...

    Neophyte just wants to check 1st recipe

    I e-mailed the shop and asked them to ship 1275 instead of the American ale yeast 1272. One thing less to worry about. /matti
