    Midwest Supplies

Just want to let others who are local to the Twin Cities that Midwest no longer offers the option to order online and then pickup in store. I tried to check out with that option online and it wouldn't let me. So I got in touch with their customer service department and they replied that they...

Adding a heater to a chest freezer

Just run the cord between the lid and the back of the freezer. When you shut the lid it seal it up quite well. Any remaining gap due to the cord will be so tiny that it won't affect temp much. I use the Lasko heater as well. Does the job nicely.

Control Products Dual Relay $60 Shipped on Amazon

I used this thread as a reference when I built my controller. Yes, wire 9 comes from the power plug. It is wired together with the white wire in the power cord and the white wire that goes to the controller.

    Fermentation Chamber Question

I just built out this same controller. It's a great controller. I paired it with this personal heater as the heat source: http://www.amazon.com/Lasko-100-MyHeat-Personal-Ceramic/dp/B003XDTWN2/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_y This heater has a small fan built in so that whenever it is running the fan is...

Anyone familiar with driving a 7-segment display?

It's been about 15 years since I worked on something like this back in college, so I don't remember too many details, but my guess it is not worth the time/effort. If you're talking about using a discrete 7-segment component, you'll also likely need a decoder/driver chip and probably still need...

    New guy from MN

Welcome back. Your story sounds kind of like my recent return to brewing, except my break was 10 years and I haven't started kegging (yet).

Unveiling my brewery & garage build

Congrats on your awesome build! You even finished off the deck with a great grill. Looks like you have the same model that I have. Can't beat grilling on a Weber while drinking a homebrew!

I need all your help getting a job at a brewery!

For any potential job (not just in brewing) I would not mention I would show up on time and sober. That's an expectation for any job. Bringing it up would make the employer wonder, "Is there a reason this guy needs to point out his ability to read a clock and not get drunk before work?" :)

    New guy from MN

I see a few new members from MN. Welcome. Midwest is great for supplies. I have my first batch (after a very long break) bottle conditioning now for a couple more weeks. Heading to Midwest tomorrow for supplies for the next batch. It's great that you can order online and pick up in the...

    November surge in homebrewing interest

For me it was the onset of cooler weather. The frozen landscape meant I wouldn't need to spend so much time on yard work. I'd finally have some time to do something I'd like to do instead of have to do.

    Wort Chiller into boil?

I stick my chiller into my bottling bucket filled with Starsan while my boil is finishing up. I also take this chance to get my chiller connected to the bathroom faucet and make sure I don't have any leaks. (I can't fit a hose adapter onto my kitchen sink since it has a pullout sprayer, so I...

Possibly dumb question about batch sizes

I agree with this response. I'm currently fermenting a 2.5 gallon batch in a 6.5 gallon bucket and the airlock activity indicates plenty of gas being produced. You'd only need a smaller secondary fermenter (and you probably don't need to secondary at all).
