I have a screen attached to my drain spigot that hugs the side of my kettle. I start a good whirlpool and whirlpool it awhile. I get very little wort transfer that isn't clear. What you may be seeing is the cold break. Last batch I did a good whirlpool and just put the lid on my kettle and...
OK, I'm a bit slow. Are you saying I can take any recipe and let's just say leave the 60 min hop addition alone, but just add everything else to the cube? Interesting! I'd love to try that!
I can't think of what may be wrong either. I have done this several ways. I have simply put the lid on my brew pot and waited till it cooled, then racked and pitched. I have drained to a plastic bucket and pitched when cool. I have drained to a pyrex carboy and pitched when cool. No issues...
Forgot to mention that I also do not use any type of altered hop schedule. Everything turns out as it should! I have switched to 90 min boils though.
Wish I had discovered no chill before I bought my plate chiller!
I have brewed several no chill brews now both dark and light. The latest is a lawnmower beer. There have been no off flavors in any of them. I do not use winpaks.
I have used regular plastic buckets and I have used a pyrex carboy. I have also just left it in the boil kettle over night...
Or, perhaps, I could lie to my beer software and tell it I'm boiling for 80 mins, but really boil 60 mins, and tell it I'm boiling 50 mins but really boil 30 mins, etc... it seems to me that the IBU's will get calculated correctly. Anybody try it?
