I first started brewing sometime in the mid 90s when I was single and an apartment to myself. I've always been an extract guy but I've never brewed a kit. I've always been a cook and can loosely follow a recipe and improvise with confidence. So when I first started, I read Papazian cover to cover and then started with recipes. DME, hop pellets, plastic buckets, dry yeast, and a few specialty grains thrown in and I make pretty good beer. A Sam Adams clone and a brown ale are my go-to brews. I've never been bitten by the bug to go all-grain.

Later in married life, my brewing career hit a snag after my first born. I brewed a couple batches here and there but it was pretty much kaput until after the second son reached about 4 years. My wonderful wife bought me a kegerator for my birthday. Sixels of the good stuff are expensive, so I bought me some cornies and started brewing again. Bottling was such a PITA, it was one of the reasons I couldn't find time to make it work with
