First Lager, did I lager too early?

Many thanks. I would have lagered in a keg but considering this is one of those time consuming projects and my limited bottling from keg equipment, I'll be transferring to a bottling bucket after lagering. Thanks again!

First Lager, did I lager too early?

I have been brewing ales for awhile now, but decided to try lagering my Dad's old recipe. I reached my FG after 3 weeks at the recommended temp of the yeast that I used and took another reading at week 4 with the same results. I transfered into my lagering carboy and have maintained the same...

    Rye IPA experiment

I am really considering using this yeast but do you think I should lower the rye to 2lbs? The guy that runs out hole in the wall homebrew shop mentioned using flaked barley instead of dextrin but I would think that would do nothing more than boost the abv and add a bit more head retention while...

    Rye IPA experiment

I have heard good things about using rye, particularly in IPA's. While tinkering with Beersmith, I came up with this idea in hopes of creating a brew that has enough hop flavor but doesn't overpower the "pepper" atribute of the rye. (All grain / 152F infusion x60 mins and 168F sparge, 60...

Thoughts on this "Tan/ non-grapefruit IPA" Idea

I am going for a good, full bodied IIPA that has a good citrus nose on it, but without the overpowering grapefruit flavor. A good blend of earthy tones and melon would be ideal. I personally haven't used Citra, and am relying on what "beersmith" tells me for characteristics. I re-posted this...

    Tan, non grapefruit-ie IIPA recipe?

I guess my interpretation of grapefruit and yours differ. Yes, grapefruit is citrus flavor; as is orange, apricot, tangerine, etc. Imo, a double IPA should have a citrus flavor. I was looking for advice on a recipe that I would like to try without a pronounced Cascade-grapefruit flavor...

    Tan, non grapefruit-ie IIPA recipe?

Thanks for the advice. The reason I chose Columbus and Citra was due to my hop "cheat sheet" staying that Columbus was more of a "pungent/spicy" and citra was "citrus without the pronounced grapefruit flavor of Cascade". Based off the recommendations, would something like this be a bit more like...

    Tan, non grapefruit-ie IIPA recipe?

I am wanting to create a IIPA that is more on the tan side and has less of a grapefruit flavor. Any advice on the recipe below but would be appreciated! 5 Gallon IIPA, Partial Mash, 60 min boil Mash: 6 lb Pale 2 Row (US) 3 lb Maris Otter 1 lb Caramunich 1/2 lb Carapils / Dextrine...

    Removing labels from glasses

I've had success using a paint gun. Burn the paint until it is bubbling then leave it to cool. Scrape off the paint once it's cooled and good to go. :mug:

    Beer looks like a snowglobe

My screening filter is actually attached to the hard plastic syphoning rod inside the secondary carboy and not on the end of the hose that drains into the bucket. I siphon into my priming sugar dilution without splashing. Will this still create oxidation? Honestly, most of my brews turn out...

    Beer looks like a snowglobe

If I pour for a buddy, I do a slow pour and can keep it pretty clear. I actually don't mind the sediment and just dump it all in for myself. Thanks for all the input!

    Beer looks like a snowglobe

Always used the same water. I have had a batch with some similar flaking around the hop bag but cold crashed that with geletin and it seemed to drop out of the secondary. I have brewed quite a few different batches and this is not common, dry hopped or not. I don't use much of a filtration...

    Beer looks like a snowglobe

This is actually a slightly modified version of Morebeer's M-80 IPA and was bottled on 7/26/15. Made the recipe as per the instructions and added only a pound of malt to my steeping grain. Used about 2.5oz dry hops Iirc for 7 days. They do settle to the bottom but loosly when cold, regardless of...

    Beer looks like a snowglobe

I brewed this Orange IPA and noticed the white "snowflakes" forming around the dry hop bag and releasing into the beer. I usually filter with a screen but opted not to on this batch. The beer tastes exceptional, but I was wondering what they are? In the bottle they settle at the bottom. I figure...
