Brown spot in my sake batch

Thank you! That is what it appeared to be - it was all subsurface and in the sake liquid. That is a relief! I will continue on with it - I appreciate the input!

Brown spot in my sake batch

Please advise O Great Sake Brewers! I was finishing up a large batch of sake (8 cups dry rice) and about a week before pulling, I turned the jug to notice a large brown spot in the rice. I periodically checked the smell throughout the fermentation to see if it was off, but it smells sweet and...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I have been getting some mold on top of the rice as it ferments. What is normal for mold as well as color ranges of mold. The first batch I had a little white fuzzy mold and the the last batch has been grey to almost black in places. Concerned I may have made some primordial soup.....

Thanks for all the research and experimentation! We have a 25 lb bag of jasmine rice and some leftover glutinous sweet rice we use for making...

    Cider Newbie

So if you do, what happens - super yeasty flavor? Too much ..............? I tried it (through peer pressure) and am reconsidering what I was thinking and what the outcome will be. Any insight?

    Cider Newbie

Just kicking off my first four batches of cider to find what tastes best. Using the Whole Foods 365 Organic juice (which normally tastes kind of weak and watered down) but experiments are always a learning experience, right? We are sitting on Day 2 with bubbles happily going along. My only...
