    Northern Brewer Replacement

I've ordered regularly from http://www.austinhomebrew.com/ for well over 10 years now. Their flat rate shipping is great. I still don't see how they turn a profit sending me 40+ pounds of supplies for $7 or whatever it is. Sometimes they have free shipping! The packing is always excellent...

Rookie needs help with stage 3 kegging/bottling

First off, congratulations on diving into this hobby! It sounds like you've gotten a little ahead of yourself, and there's nothing wrong with that! I agree with Brewcrew86, go ahead and rack into the keg with your priming sugar. Oxidation won't be a problem... this is rarely an issue in...

I'm tired of losing a gallon of beer during fermentation!

I know that WLP001 tries to go crazy with blowoff if I use any corn sugar in the bill. Also, I totally agree with the previous replies that suggest checking your temperature. How exactly are you concluding what your fermentation temperature is? Thermowell/probe inside the fermenter? Probe...

    Soldering Stainless steel

I've been having more fun soldering stuff with my Staybrite. This time I soldered stainless pipe thread joints from the inside to get a semi-sanitary seal. I created a new thread, take a look, but I figured I'd mention it here in this legendary thread of all things stainless steel soldering.

    Soldering stainless pipe thread fittings

I got a Chugger pump recently and a set of stainless camlock fittings and ball valve. When assembling the fittings I used what I believed to be an ample amount of teflon tape. However, I had a few very slight leaks causing some of the fittings to drip, even with "more than enough" torque on...

    Soldering Stainless steel

The spuds are super easy. No dimpling is needed. Drilling the hole was more of a pain for me than the soldering. I've had more trouble installing weldless kits. To prepare for soldering, simply wind the Stay Brite around the boss of the spud overlapping on each turn, like a clock spring. Wind...

    Soldering Stainless steel

I've never been happy with my aeration stone with its barb attached to a hose. I already have a nice SS racking cane and plenty of left over Stay Brite / Stay Clean, so I figured I'd try sticking some copper tubing on to the stone. The tubing ID fit right over the SS barb and to my good fortune...

    Soldering Stainless steel

I finally got around to soldering the "welding spud" I bought a while back from Brewhardware.com on to my HLT. It was a lot easier to do than I thought and seems to be very strong. I should have done it months ago instead of putting off. I used the Harris Staybrite kit mentioned many times...

    Soldering Stainless steel

I've got the exact same situation. The reducer fitting (the die) OD is 1.06" and the OD of the couplers are 1.20" (4464K473). I agree with you that these couplers are very thick walled compared to pics of others. These are rough cast vs my other weldless kit couplers that have been turned on...
