    Wierd Firestone 10 gallon keg

AH...I see now. That middle post looks like a pressure relief valve of some sort to me. My keg does not have one.

    Wierd Firestone 10 gallon keg

It's like the threaded post are shorter then a normal keg. So, instead of making a longer popits they used a plastic insert and the same popits. I found a replacement at Williams Brewing it was 2 bucks if I remember correctly. It was a little larger then the one in my keg so I did have to...

Show us your DIY stir plate!

My old stir plate was a little to small for my 5L flask. So, I had to break out the 3D printer yesterday and whip up something bigger. I reused the 120mm fan and adjustable power supply from my old unit. If I factor in the 3D printing plus the old parts cost me right around $20 bucks to make...

    Control Panel handles

They for sure do not offer much if any protection. My panel is connected to a stainless steel table with casters. They are wonderful for getting my table in a good brewing location. I could just grab the table but handles are way better for lining up the casters to lock them. My panel also...

    Control Panel handles

I found these on clearance at my local box store. 7" and 16" stainless drawer pulls. They come in many different sizes. I think I paid $3 for the small heat sink protectors and $6 for the gauge protectors. Unintended use is that they help keep wires and plug off the floor when not in use.

How to remove rust from a bad passitivated solder

You do not need to passivate it again. The pickling gel you used is most likely Nitric Acid or Hydrofluoric Acid or both of them. Any acid can be used to remove the impurities and free iron on the surface of the stainless caused by the welding process. Once your rinse the acid off. The...

Can a freshly cleaned part be called sanitized?

I'm lazy. I just do a long soak, hot rinse, and the hose blast!

Can a freshly cleaned part be called sanitized?

Bacteria do have a hot water survivability rating. Some are microorganisms are more resistant then others. My worry would be the particulate matter that is always floating around in PWB. Does it have insulating properties? Now, the PBW has cooled what has grown in that over night soak. And...

How to remove rust from a bad passitivated solder

If the fitting was soldered in using Silver Solder then is sounds like heat tint. Heat tint is also called bluing but it can be yellow or brown or even rainbow colored depending on the heating process. In a nutshell the stainless was heated to a point which depleted the Chromium Oxide layer...

    Electric AND Gas?

The only way, I can see any benefit in doing this is if your running a smaller 120v element. Where your are limited on BTU output. If your running a 240v 5500w element heating, time to boil is pretty darn fast especially if you start heating during the sparge. I start walking my temperature...

    Homemade PBW Recipe

As far as I can tell it's two ingredients. My life sucks because I'm always at some kind of store buying this thing or that thing. So, when I see what I need I just throw it in the cart. So it's not to much a hassle for me. I got a 3# tub of Oxiclean Free for $5. I got 2 one pound bags...

    Homemade PBW Recipe

thank you for the replies. I'll be sticking to the 2 to 1 oxiclean free and red devil. I wanna keep the pH high.

    Homemade PBW Recipe

So, I'm ordering the ingredients to mix up some of this and got to thinking. About, how the pH is really what get's the cleaning done. So, I spent sometime on google and from what I can find PBW's pH should be around 12. Now here's the dangerous part, "I got to thinking". Wouldn't adding 7th...
