So, who is good with math?

I must, respectfully, disagree. Without knowing the original alcohol content it is not possible to accurately calculate either the 'bump' in percentage alcohol, or the ABV. Again, the differences are minor, but real. If the beer starts off with 0% alcohol, then the calculations above...

So, who is good with math?

We need to know the alcohol content of your beer before we can give you an accurate answer. The answers above are based on adding the alcohol to water, and fail to take into account any alcohol that may already be in the beer. The differences are probably pretty minor, but to illustrate - if...

    Oxygenation required?

If I am pouring a new batch of wort over an existing yeast cake from a previous batch, do I need to aerate / oxygenate? I thought that oxygen was needed only to help with yeast reproduction, and not the actual fermentation process... so since I am putting new wort onto what is probably an...

    Plastic PET Bottles

I used Mr. Beer plastic bottles, went to glass when I went up to 5 gallon batches, and have now switched back to 1 liter PET exclusively. Just too many advantages to plastic to pass up, in my opinion. I have found it interesting that I cannot find 1-liter PET (brown) anywhere except Mr...

    Beer in plastic bottles...

Personally, I am switching over to all plastic bottles and getting rid of my glass. Just so much easier, safer and so many other good reasons to go to plastic. Maybe someday I'll think differently (I've only been brewing about a year), but plastic seems way better right now. DJG

How to attach 10 gauge wire to a Grainger 3PDT switch?

+100 for the concern here. It looks to me like you are switching the heater elements through that switch, and I cannot believe it could possibly handle the current. Check that out carefully or you could create an overheat / fire condition. DJG

    Thinking of fermenting outdoors...

It is the 'Munich Helles' kit. I can't find anything on the instructions or the box that indicates what strain it is. It is currently bubbling away at 65F. DJG

    Thinking of fermenting outdoors...

I'm not sure. It was a dry pack from a Brewer's Best kit, and in German. Something like 'Breemeister' but there was no strain listed. I don't remember exactly. I've decided to let it go indoors with a consistent 65F temp. It is bubbling nice and steadily now, and I'll post how it turns...

Could I turn my vertical freezer into a horizontal fermenter??

In the spirit of sharing, here's two links to sites that have some pretty good information on 'suction line accumulators'. Again, this is typically for larger systems, but a small unit might have something like this built in... http://www.henrytech.com/Tips/HT-TT14.pdf...

    Temp control for multiple fermenters

I am designing a dual chamber fermenter, and will use the idea that DrDarwin mentioned - two chambers with fans and temperature controllers for each. The colder chamber will be located right off of the refrigerator/freezer and will have a temperature controller that controls the compressor set...
