    Homebrew Kegerator for sale

Hi all - It's been a while since I posted here. I hope I don't get dinged by offering something up for sale where I shouldn't be. You might remember my kegerator refurb from way back in 2007: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kvh/sets/72157600351871098/ I'm sorry to say I haven't used it...

    Spent Malted Grain Disposal Question

I don't go through nearly as much as you, but I live in a row-home apartment now with limited backyard access. I used to dump my grains in my composter at my old apartment, but now I take them out my back window and up to the roof where I dump them for the birds.... If you dump them with...

    CO2 in Washington, DC?

Laurel Bottle Gas will do it, it's closer than annapolis homebrew for sure... Still outside city limits though. Do a search for bottle gas, someone there must do it... kvh

    Free Yeast from Brewery

if you just got it from a brewery, there's no need to make a starter (someone will probably disagree with me here) - that stuff is raring to go, and adding another step to the process will only be risking a possible infection... Half a mayonnaise jar's worth? I think you could use less than...

Does CO2 make you guys nauseous?

This is almost true... For what it's worth, the CO2 being produced is all sustainable - that is to say, it's being produced from the sugars of this past year's crops, barley and apples in this case. The issue of sustainability becomes problematic when you're burning fossil fuels which have...

    Bottle Caps?

Some people theorize that any residual CO2 that might be in solution (or, less likely, some newly created from the priming sugar) will rise to the surface and push out the O2 from the top of the bottle. Letting the caps sit loose will allow the O2 to escape, as CO2 is heavier and will sit lower...

post on NYT about cask conditioned beer

Oops - almost screwed myself out of $25 and some mighty fine beer. Anyone who's interested, I'll say again, there's a Cask Ale Fest in Baltimore, MD this weekend. It's TOMORROW (Saturday), not sunday as I had originally thought. I should really read things more closely.... I'll shut up...

post on NYT about cask conditioned beer

Incidentally, for those of you in the greater Baltimore area, there's a real ale festival being held at Oliver's Wharf Rat down at the Inner Harbor (you can take the light rail almost to the front door) on Sunday from 1-6 PM. Here's the link. Tickets are $25, I bought mine yesterday so some...

    Quitting brewing

Someone a while back finally beat a long string of infections by soaking his fermenter in a bleach solution for a few days, then rinsing with water, then star san. His theory, which was apparently proved correct, was that the scratches in the buckets were harboring the bacteria - the bleach...

Idea for Chiller and DMS concern

I knew I wasn't crazy.. slightly misinformed perhaps, but not crazy. Thanks guys. I think I have some things figured out... I just need to assemble the equipment now. Conceivably, if my chiller worked quickly enough, I could chill a gallon or so and then dump it back into the brew kettles on...

Idea for Chiller and DMS concern

    Warning, brew porn

I have some perlick regulators, they take standard 1/4 NPT threaded fittings. Don't worry too much... should be simple. kvh

    Drill Driven Impeller Pump

I posted talking about one of those before... the only concerns anyone had was whether it was food grade AND whether it could handle the heat. The general concensus was no... However, rest assured if all else fails.... if your bath tub backs up, you can now pump that water out the window to...

    Warning, brew porn

They're around 2 grand new I believe, http://www.micromatic.com stocks them. What I'd suggest you do is rig a cross-bar draft tower, similar to these or these, (DIY is the cheapest choice by far, unless you know a metal fabricator somewhere). Are you sure it can only hold 8 cornies? Crazy...
