Let me do it. I can drill a hole like that with my eyes open. I ain't very good with tools...

    Remember when...

Square rooms? You're telling me! The wife wants the radiators moved underneath the windows in all the rooms, the only problem is that the floor and the windows aren't parallel. Makes it REAL fun trying to get it not look goofy. I think I remodeled 2 rooms of the house before I bought a...

    Remember when...

The biggest issue I have with old lath and plaster is that as the house moves through the decades, the lath comes away from the plaster. You then get springy bits in the wall. Hopefully this wasn't what you had as you can get bouncy wall from it. In one of my rooms there was a bouncy...

    Remember when...

I still have lath and plaster (and horse hair) in my flat. Original from 1850's. It's a complete nightmare to be honest. Though in the living room when we lifted the wall paper of the walls we found a section where people who previously decorated has been signing it from about 1907 to the...

    Soldering Stainless steel

Tried my hand at soldering stainless to copper the yesterday. Complete failure to start with. Just using generic silver solder and flux from the local hardware shop. Had a read on the forum and saw a recommendation for using hydrochloric acid based flux instead. Didn't have any so dipped the...

Kaptain Koomber's Counter Pressure Auto Bottler

Finally built it. It wasn't a massive success. The 1mm steel wire was a bit on the thin side and had a habit of jamming open. I think with a bit of modification I can get it to work, but for now I've modified it into a normal functioning counter pressure bottler.

Kaptain Koomber's Counter Pressure Auto Bottler

I've been working on a design for a counter pressure auto bottler (ie counter pressure bottle filler that starts filling a bottle once the bottle is on, but stops when the bottle is removed.) It should allow for 1 handed, easy operation. If needed you can add CO2 purging too, but obviously...

    Prague and Munich - Advice/Recommendations

If you're going to Prague, I HIGHLY recommend going to Jama. Great selection of beers and the food is top notch. Had a great time there for a friends stag weekend.

Reduced Boil Time for Bittering Additions

I've heard that by reducing the length of boil, but increasing the amount of hops used, then you can get a much smoother bittering from the hops. It sounds reasonable to me so I was plying with an idea for a ESB: Ingredients: ------------ Amount Item Type % or IBU 4.50 kg Pale Malt, Maris...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

Cheers Kombot. I'll level with you, I may have picked too low a temperature there lol. More used to working in Celsius (and when I do work in Fahrenheit it's in the region of 120F)

We no need no stinking beer gun...

Cheers for the help Mike. What I'm wondering is, if I was using the beer gun and I wanted to have my beer have, say 2.5 volumes of CO2 at serving temp of 40F. What pressure would I need to get my beer at before I bottled, when the beer temp will be around 30F. I know I need to drop to 3PSI...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

Looking at using this nice little setup for bottling my beer in the future, I was wondering about obtaining the correct level of carbonation. I'm guessing that I would need to use this chart somehow, but I can#t figure out how lol. http://www.kegerators.com/carbonation-table.php Any...

    Munich Scotch Style Ale

Trying to work down my existing stock of malts and hops before I get some fresh stuff in. I'm quite partial to an 80/- or two so I've decided to go ahead and brew one, with a Teutonic Twist. Due to limitations on what grains I have, and because I think it might actually work, I've decided to...
