Sparge Water Heater Converted to AIO BIAB Unit

I've often wondered if a sparge water heater or a large coffee urn could be converted into a small Digiboil/Brewzilla/Mash&Boil type all in one unit. So when the Grainfather sparge water heater went on sale for $50 this summer I jumped on it. First I removed the valve and sight glass assembly...

    Everyday Simplest Dry Cider

I'm drinking this right now. I followed the directions exactly. It's good. Crystal clear, perfect carbonation, and a lot of apple taste. If it's too tart just add some simple syrup in your glass when when you drink it. Thanks, phug!

    Pictures of hop plants

This is their second year. I planted rhizomes last year. The Nugget had several vines growing when I planted it and then exploded with vegetation. But produced only a few cones. The Cascade looked like I was planting a stick. It grew up about eight feet and then produced enough cones for a 5...

    Pictures of hop plants

It's interesting to see the differences in the hop varieties. The Nugget has reached the top of my trellis wire (about 16 feet) and gone on another 4 feet. Meanwhile, the Cascade has gone up about 12 feet and then set about making cones.

    Pictures of hop plants

Here are my second year plants. The Nugget is really taking off and spreading out on the ground. It's the fourth plant from the right. Each plant has two vertical twines. I'm wondering if I need to do some pruning and thin out some of the leaves on the bottom? Or let them grow and...

Skeeter pee made with Kveik yeast?

A 2.5 gallon batch takes a 4 lb bag of sugar ($2), one 1.5 qt bottle of Lemon Juice ($3), a tablespoon of nutrient and a teaspoon of energizer. Seems cheap and easy to give it a try. Please report back. ;)

Beer Slurry Starter for Skeeter Pee?

It looked like this was finished fermenting so I racked it into gallon jugs this weekend. I put about 8 ounces in a bottle and cold crashed it in the fridge. Tonight I sampled it. The hop aroma is there, but it tastes like grapefruit (Cascade hops). No vegetative flavor at all. Adding a little...

Beer Slurry Starter for Skeeter Pee?

I don't have any goal in mind other than seeing what happens if one uses a beer slurry to start a batch of skeeter pee. Will it still come out the same as the original? WIll it have a slight green tint, but taste the same? WIll the hops change the flavor? Will that be a good thing? Will it be...

Beer Slurry Starter for Skeeter Pee?

I kegged a 2.5 gallon batch of dry-hopped pale ale and when I went to clean the fermenter I wondered what hopped Skeeter Pee would taste like. So I threw in the ingredients from the original SP recipe and away it went. The yeast is S-05. It sure is ugly, but it smells good..... Anyone made...

Hi everyone, I am looking to brew a skeeter pee without a slurry

Sounds interesting. Please let us know how it turns out. Tonight I emptied a 3 gallon fermenter. I also found a packet of Windsor yeast that I picked up last year, but I can't remember what I was going to use it for. I think I'll try it on a 2.5 gallon batch.

Hi everyone, I am looking to brew a skeeter pee without a slurry

I cover the primary with a thin towel or cheesecloth in the belief that some of those preservatives will off-gas in the 24hrs or so it takes to get my starter up to speed. I also use tap water and wonder if the chlorine/sodium metabisulfite reaction helps reduce its effectiveness as a...

Hi everyone, I am looking to brew a skeeter pee without a slurry

That's exactly my thinking and why I start with only a small splash of SP to start with and increase the amount gradually.

Hi everyone, I am looking to brew a skeeter pee without a slurry

I use that recipe and that yeast and never use a slurry. Get two sanitized quart jars. Fill one half full with your mixed Skeeter Pee. Put about a quarter of an inch in the other and sprinkle your yeast on top of the water. 30 minutes later put a splash of Skeeter Pee in with the yeast. I put...
