    iSpindle - DIY Electronic Hydrometer

Hi all- I've read a ton through this and searched to no avail. My iSpindel is linked to my Brewer's Friend account and I cannot get accurate readings whatsoever. Temp always reads 32F. Gravity reading is in Plato (which I am fairly certain I changed, but it is wildly inaccurate. ABV is...

    iSpindle Concentrators, Repeaters, Bridges, Hubs

thanks for the reply. This is my first fermentation using the ispindel. It was supposedly pre-configured, and the gravity readings are accurate. I am using the existing software and brewer's friend. I should probably recalibrate it regardless.

    iSpindle Concentrators, Repeaters, Bridges, Hubs

I tried searching and could not find anything, so I hope this is the right place for this. I have an ispindel working well with Brewer's Friend except the ABV, which is showing at like 936% ABV. Any ideas on how to correct?

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I know that the spike conical heater has been covered here, but has anyone tried to repair one? I had not used it in a long while and plugged it into the controller and nothing. I already tried it in a few different ones.It is too old to send back, but it is frustrating seeing the number of...

    3 bbl nano design advice

Hello- I am looking at a few types of 3bbl - 3.5 bbl systems and wanted some advice on an idea. I have access to natural gas and currently a maximum of about 100a panel. My thought was to go with a 2 vessel set up and a Rinnai 199 tankless heater. The BK would be electric, with 2-3 6000 watt...

    Mecca Grade Estate Malts

Yes. It’s the shipping that’s tough. But we are committed to using as much local ingredients as possible. We’re using all Imperial yeast, have accounts with Crosby hop farms, and drive to BSG to get our grain weekly! If we get big enough to get pallets at a time, the shipping gets easier...

    Mecca Grade Estate Malts

I’m about 1.5 hrs to Madras, and their farm is about 20 mins from one of my favorite fly fishing spots. That all said, I can’t get out there as often as we need grain unless I buy 20-30 sacks at a time, and can’t afford the outlay right now. Hopefully in the future

    Mecca Grade Estate Malts

It’s fairly easy to find here in Portland by the pound at home brew shops. But none of the distributors such as BSG or CMG carry it.

spa panel breaker tripping - new brew panel build

Thanks all. On a more practical note, I could use some advice. The panel will operate a 2 x 5500 watt elements for a 1 bbl system. Both elements will be in the same kettle - similar to a BIAB although I’ll have a separate mash tun. So the question is should I set it up so that one switch can...

spa panel breaker tripping - new brew panel build

Oh boy. That explains a lot. I’ll rewire it tonight and the panel. Thanks for the advice and I’ll keep folks posted.

spa panel breaker tripping - new brew panel build

picture forthcoming. What is the best way to test a contactor? I manually moved the switch and tested continuity across 1 and 2 with success, leading me to believe the contactor was fine.

spa panel breaker tripping - new brew panel build

Double checked the spa panel. It’s wired the same way as in the diagram above. Back to square one.

spa panel breaker tripping - new brew panel build

Thanks for the pic - I assume A1 and A2 this makes sense. I’ll double check the spa panel tonight. Funny thing is the spa panel had been working with the hosehead controller for a while. There were occasions when it would trip though, so perhaps this is the culprit....

spa panel breaker tripping - new brew panel build

I unwired everything except main power in to contactor, power to coil, and key switch to isolate the issue, hence the loose looking wires. None of them are live. First pic - that is A1 tying in to common. A2 goes to key switch *(white in this pic) Key switch goes to Contactor - red wire from...
