    Rubbermaid cooler as hopback

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone has used their MLT cooler as a hopback? I'm thinking of doing this... would there be any problems with the heat? Does the manifold filter whole/pellet hops well? Thanks

    Deuchars IPA Clone Recipe?

Great info in this thread. I went and googled for a Deuchar's clone, and it led me straight back here. I lived in Scotland for 6 months last year and really enjoyed Caledonian Brewery's Deuchars and the -/80. I found that the cask products in Glasgow were sometimes a bit dodgy, but there were a...

My new Brewery and Alehouse-Shed (Brewing Porn )

Amazing! There is nothing better than a proper English pub. Well done, sir! Are those actual hand-pulls you've got there? If so, how are you working them? Cask-breathers?

What do Americans think of Canadians generally?

Nice little intro to Quebecois swearing... funny stuff.

What do Americans think of Canadians generally?

The Eastern Townships have a more sizeable Anglophone population than Quebec City, which probably hovers around 1%. Don't get the wrong idea, there are a few English schools (2 high schools, 4 or 5 elementary) and an English-speaking community here. The tone of my first message was a bit harsh...

What do Americans think of Canadians generally?

As an Anglophone Quebecer (and not a Montrealer here, from Quebec City (the "National" capital as the signage calls it here), I don't, and never have understood the desire for an independent Quebec. Francophone Quebecers say they don't feel like they belong in Canada; it certainly doesn't help...

    Trip to Dublin

+1 on going to Galway. If I were to do it again, I would skip Temple Bar. Or maybe have ONE pint. That's where you'll pay $6 a pint. Outside this area and outside Dublin it is more reasonable (I think it was around 3 EUR when I was there). Galway is amazing, and I definitely want to go back and...

Brewing a Helles - Protein rest?

Maybe a bone question but I've only ever made liter starters. Here, do you mean by "stepping it up" that you say, pitch the yeast into a liter of wort, and then a few days later, add another liter of wort and so on up to the desired size? Thanks!

Brewing a Helles - Protein rest?

Thanks for the heads up about the 90 minute boil. As for the starter, do you usually pitch the yeast in the starter at 50-55F ie. the temperature you are going to ferment the wort at, or do you start it at a higher temp and drop it down, possibly decanting any of the beer on top to avoid off...

Brewing a Helles - Protein rest?

That's what I was wondering... I was basing this specifically on the eventuality of having undermodified malts. If they were ok, I imagine it would start harming the beer; poor head formation etc. I'm probably just wanting to do a protein rest because I can't brew it all grain, so I need to...

Brewing a Helles - Protein rest?

Hi all, I've moved and lost some of my equipment in the process, so I've decided to try this recipe by conducting a sort of mini-mash by steeping grains. I want to brew a Munich Helles (got a taste for Augustiner while in Munich last summer). I want to steep about 6 lbs (about 3 of german...
