Some say that the artificial sweeteners are bad for you and could cause cancer. I know if I chew too much gum with artificial sweeteners, I'll get a headache. I would stick to drinking lots of water, milk, 100% fruit juices and tea.

in a 16 oz glass combine 1/2 tsp vanilla, 3 tbsp simple syrup,and carefully fill with club soda.....if it's not sweet enough, play with the amount of simple syrup. simple syrup = 1 cup sugar + 1 cup water

Just buy some Sprite or 7-Up and some blue raspberry flavored syrup. You can usually find it where ice shavers or snow cone makers are sold. Try target of Bed, Bath and Beyond. I've seen it there.

If it's so old it's dried out, why do you want to reconstitute it? I'd play it safe and just throw it away or buy some fresh extract.
