    Lower than average efficiency

That what I'm thinking... I will see what it finishes down to, I make big starters so fermentation is usually finished within 5 days, I'll take FG sample tonight.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Just threw together my zombie dust 3.0... I changed the recipe twice, adding different hops to add bitterness. The all citra is great, but I prefer more bitterness, basically punch in the face hoppiness that I just didn't get with citra only. I added cascade and centennial to the mix, cannot...

    Lower than average efficiency

I'm also assuming the higher gravity may add a malt ire flavor to the beer, and the addition of the DME may help dry it out a bit, plus the dry hops it should still taste fine.

    Lower than average efficiency

Hello all, I made my third variation of the zombie dust clone this weekend, and ran into some issues. I brew all grain, and have a water filtration system, a barley crusher, and use a 10 gal cooler as a mash tun. First, the grains were all about 3 months old, sealed in buckets, no bugs or...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

I can't believe how hard mine fermented... It was so weird using the wyeast ale for this... I thought it was rotten and infected, but apparently it's supposed to look like boogers lol. It did it's work quickly though

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

So now that this has been sessions a few times I have a few observations. I made this beer slightly stronger, just because I always do. Also, the citra hops do not add a whole lot of bite when used as the bittering hop. This makes the beer very unique, and I have not tried the original. Next...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Just brewed this Saturday. I changed my recipe to 14 pounds of 2 row, I milled my own grain for the first time, and I now realize my efficiency is much improved over my LHBS milling. My OG was 1090, hopefully my 1968 will ferment enough and it won't be too malty. Guess the dry hops will help.

force carb, then bottle, then much flatter carb?

so I bottled a RIS that was about 11% recently. I force carbed it for two weeks, and it had slightly more carb than I wanted in the final product, but I assumed that I would lose some to bottling. I had not yet made a "beer gun" and instead just poured very slowly into the bottles, let them...

    Yeasty taste

I finished and bottles a clone of founders breakfast stout that I brewed back in November. The beer is strong, about 11%. The use of coffee, and cocoa I learned a lesson, buy extracts, and flavor later. I had this beer fermenting for about three weeks, which is much longer than I am...

    Complex stout additions?

I learned my lesson the hard way doing a winter ale a few months back. I will be making potions, and using extracts from now on. Be very conservative when you add something. I ruined a batch adding a pinch of allspice, and boiling two cinnamon sticks for 6 minutes. I just finished a...

5L starter on stir plate aeration question

And buy an 02 stone. It changed my life. Everything is so much faster, bigger starter = faster fermentation! more 02 in primary = faster fermentation = quicker beer drinking. And it looks really really cool

5L starter on stir plate aeration question

I often make a 4L starter with my 5L erlenmeyer. I put it on a stir plate, and I think it helps, but it is so big, you can't really get a good sharknado going. But all the food for the yeast is enough, with aeration. Take a picture before you go to bed, and when you wake up, you won't believe it

    bottling from keg question

Well, I think I figured it out. Definitely longer line, and I was overcarbing the beer. I had a chart that was waaaaaay off with temp adjustment. I looked a new one up the other day and it was quite a bit lower psi to achieve the volumes of c02 I was looking for. My RISK is in the keg and...

    bottling from keg question

Thank you, I'm definitely gonna get a longer line and try that for my next batch, getting bottled next week. I'm just gonna leave the bottles outside in the New England winter after I sanitize and cover them

    bottling from keg question

hello all, im looking for some advice. when i carbonate my keg with c02, i always make it as cold as possible to absorb the highest amount of gas. when i go to bottle, i try to cool the bottles, and prevent over bubbling while bottling. i want to know, if i let the keg warm up, will i get...
