Thank for the head's up guys! Another possible use for plastic containers like these could be grain storage. An open head drum with a lid would probably be more useful though to scoop out the grain.
I was looking into different options for fermenting larger batches and I found these:
15 Gallon Natural Closed Head Drum, 16" Dia x 22-3/4"H

15 Gallon Natural Closed Top Shipping Container 14 1/2" x 26 1/2"...
I bought a SS braided hose but I haven't installed it yet. False bottoms are a little pricey and I wanted to make this on a budget. I might upgrade to a false bottom to eventually like you!
5 Gallons of Hefeweizen
5 Gallons of Scottish Export
5 Gallons of Irish Red Ale
5 Gallons of Blonde Ale
5 Gallons of German Hefeweizen
18991.5 + 25 = 19016.5
I got the MLT valve built today! Here is a pic of the final product. The MPT to barbed fitting didn't want to screw all the way in but I don't think that will cause me any trouble.
I finished up all the bottling a few hours ago and wow the Blonde Ale turned out awesome! It was drinkable straight out of the fermenter!! I had a half-bottle left at the end and I shared that with some friends and family and everyone really enjoyed it :) The only odd thing is that it's a darker...
Oops I totally forgot about that... Yea I will be pumping from the MLT and through the heat exchanger and then back to the MLT from the return manifold. Sorry, I'm still a newbie haha! I haven't even made an All-Grain brew yet. But I'm really excited to get started on one! Here is a link to my...
Possibly a Ranco or a Johnson Controlls ETC
The top temperature probe will be in the HLT to maintain a constant 180 degree temp. The other probe should be in the mash tun somewhere... Probably as far away from the return manifold as possible.
Yep that's right.
What would cause a...
I am planning on making an upgrade within the year to a HERMS system and I have a rough outline of how I would like the controls to work. Below is a quick sketch of the different circuits.
The top circuit has an electrical heating element controlled by a thermostat for the HLT. The bottom...
I just picked up all the parts for this thing! I accidentally picked up a polymer braid hose but I caught it before I cut it up. Once I return this thing and get a real steel braid I'm ready to roll!
Very nice! That's almost exactly what I have in mind for the final product.
Originally I wanted a dual stock pot and burner system just like yours but I started looking into automating the temperature of the HLT for a future upgrade and I found the nifty heating element (heatstick) idea...
Welcome! I right there with you as far as asking questions haha. Keg in your kitchen?? That sounds like an awesome setup! I would love to start collecting kegs and put together a dedicated refrigerator in the garage to chill and serve em.
Yes it sure will! The brewshop employee also helped me out by hooking me up with some higher quality yeast for it and some extra "sugary" stuff... I totally forgot what he said it was haha.
I am starting construction on my All-Grain system and so far this is my plan:
Stage 1: Gravity Fed System
The Parts:
HLT (Hot Liquor Tank)
I used the excellent tutorial here for using 10 gallon coolers for my HLT and MLT.
10 gallon Rubbermaid/Gott cooler ≈ $45
