I'll second Bohemia, Indio, and Negra Modelo. All welcome alternatives to Corona and Dos Equis (which I will drink when the time is right). I love a hoppy beer, but not when the ambient temperature is nearly 5 million degrees.
As far as the worst destination, I'd say Ecuador is pretty bad...
The ice buildup is likely throwing temps off. Ice forms around 32 F. The fridge thinks it is about that cold (likely a bit warmer as air is being circulated and the thermostat is not going to be super sensitive. As long as the ice is there it thinks there is no need to go any cooler. 40 F is...
I tend to use OxiClean in the ratio of about 2ish scoops (which is nearly half a cup) to 5 gallons of water. Hot water. I mean really hot water, the hotter the better. I really don't think about it much as it's pretty cheap. I fall into elkshadow's camp as it's not something to really worry...
Densely populated, but maybe not with the people who are likely to spend upwards of ten bucks for a sixer...I'm guessing those beers sit there for quite some time on the shelf.
Man, that stinks. I usually have no issues with the freshness of Founders, and I do most of my beer shopping at Meijer. Maybe it's because of the high turnover in the Ann Arbor area. If your ever out this way check it out.
It's been a while since I looked at this thread, so I just read the last ten pages. It's awesome to see so many Michigan brews outside Michigan. I love 'Huma Lupa Licious' and most anything put out by Shorts. Founders Breakfast Stout is amazing as is Double Trouble and Dirty Bastard. Anything...
I had a pumpkin ale I made last fall that developed the same pellicle. It developed after I added my spice tea. I thought it could be from the oils in the freshly ground spices. I racked from under it and it showed up in the bottles. After some reading, I figured it was white mold. I...
Congrats on your first beer. Dark Horse make a great IPA and now because of AIH so do you. It feels good doesn't it? I used to drive from Ann Arbor to the old Taylor store to get ingredients, Jason and his crew are great. I'm glad they opened a store in A2.
What's your next planned brew...
I know it wasn't the point of your post, but I'm sorry for your loss. I wish I had been closer to my dad. Even so, I'm having a glass of my Edmond Fitzgerald Porter in his memory. :mug:
I know that many aquarists (and my local fish store) use copper to treat fish for infections and parasites. In the right dosage, it's fine for fish, but harmful to invertebrates. I should think that yeast fall into that category.
And I just sprayed my Founders Dirty Bastard all over my computer. Thanks. I knew I should have browsed HBT on my tablet today. (no keys = easy clean up.)
I did my fist real partial mash today. I made my starter on the 30th for a New Years Eve brew, but I ended up going out instead. I brewed today using my first starter and my first time trying a real PM. I also got to use my new 7.5 brew kettle from Black Friday for the first time. I'm stoked...
I know I'm new here, but #2 is local to me and I know their equipment is top notch. Also, online sales are very important to them and have seen them on the phone with customers for up a to half an hour doing "tech" support. I think either is a good choice, but I vote for #2.
Your post actually made me get a membership here. I love growing/having a beard, but when I need to shave I use quality implements. I love Tabac (especially in the winter; I didn't even know they had tubes). My brews have been really good as I usually don't shave before brew day. It also...
