    Graham's English Cider

Just finally took this out of secondary and bottled it on 2-10-14 after 11-months from starting it on 3-11-13. I used a healthy dose of yeast nutrient and did not have any off-smells at all. I also used Fermcap. Crystal clear and nice and fresh. I decided not to carbonate it for something...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Update: I bottled my first batch of this at the end of July 2012. It'd been a couple of months since I'd had one, so I decided to crack a bomber open yesterday. IMHO, it's tasting the best it's ever tasted right now. I still have 6-bombers and 2-12-oz. bottles left. It has completely cleared...

    Graham's English Cider

Made a 5-gallon batch of this up yesterday. I had purchased 6-gallons of apple juice at Costco (Kirkland brand) some months back and forgot about them down in the basement. Discovered them again recently and decided to make this up. My only issue was that when I pulled my 6-gallon Better Bottle...

Beer Trade Dilemma...What Would You Do?

I went ahead and posted on the Dark Lord trade thread that I would take him up on his offer to replace the broken bottle of 2012 Dark Lord with a bottle of 2013 Dark Lord once it is released next year. I posted a couple of days ago on the trade thread, and have not yet gotten a response from...

    FT. 2012 Dark Lord

I will take you up on your offer to replace the broken bottle of 2012 Dark Lord in this trade, with a bottle of 2013 Dark Lord once it is released. Thank you. :mug:

Beer Trade Dilemma...What Would You Do?

I did forget to mention that he offered to return the beer... well, part of it at least. I'm not sure if he drank one of them, or gave/traded it to someone else? I don't want half the beer back! This was a trade I was really looking forward to receiving. Prior to this, I'd only done local...

Beer Trade Dilemma...What Would You Do?

Sorry for the delayed response. The bottle of beer in-question was a bottle of 2012 Dark Lord, so that's why he said I'd have to wait until next year. I do have as many PMs saved that I can (only 15-PMs right now since I'm a basic member). I had even proposed a 3-way trade in which he...

Beer Trade Dilemma...What Would You Do?

A couple of months ago now, I agreed to a trade with a fellow HomeBrewTalk member. It took a couple of weeks for cooler weather to arrive for shipping, and once it cooled down, it seemed that everything was on-track for a smooth trade. I sent 2-bottles of beer, in exchange for 1-bottle from...

If you didn't use Pacman, what yeast did you pitch?

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

I just bottled my first batch of this a couple of days ago. It was at 1.008 and I thought it was done. Forgot about it for a week, and it dropped to 1.004. So, I waited a couple more days (3-days total), and the gravity was still at 1.004, so I went ahead and bottled it. Ended up with...

    Sanitizing your bottles...

I agree with everybody above in that you can't sanitize them if they are not clean first. I rinse bottles out thoroughly after using them, then put them in storage. Throw them in a sink full or bucket full of Oxiclean or PBW, then rinse well. I then mix up a 5-gallon batch of Starsan in a...

    Thermapen

Just got one of the splash-proof models today. I'm really looking forward to using it for brewing, cooking, grilling, and all other things food and drink related. I went ahead and got the silicone boot for it as well in case I drop it, as well as extra protection from heat. I may glue a couple...

BIAB mash temp difference from top to bottom of kettle

Sounds like you are using either 2-or-3-different thermometers? Have they all been calibrated? If they haven't been calibrated, there could be a bit of variance there.

Best way to clean used bottles

I like the Oxiclean route, especially for the first-time-used-for-homebrew bottles, for a couple of reasons: 1. It'll help remove the labels, but you'll still have to do a little scrubbing. Soak them in Oxiclean and hot water for an hour or so, then come back and peel off the labels and scrub...
