Not to hijack, but can a person do secondary in a 7.9 gallon bucket (from wine making) and inject CO2 before adding airlock? I have an extra one lying around and would like to put it to GOOD USE!
thanks and sorry Hoplobster!!
+1 on the "almost frozen" bottled water. I place 2 1-gallon bottles of spring water in freezer when I start my brew, and when I am ready to transfer wort into fermenter, I sit my brew kettle in a sink of ice water for the time that it takes me to pour the "almost frozen" bottled water into the...
Actually, no, I'm fermenting with Safale 05, an ale yeast. my LHBS owner and I discussed and he suggested the ale yeast due to limitation of NOT being able to Lager at low temps... I can maintain a constant 65-68 degree fermentation temp but that is the lowest until I can create my own lager...
OK Folks, I'm gettin' ready to brew a partial grain Oktoberfest, but have read in some interesting threads about the problem with lots of extract and the problem of BOOM--exploding fermenters. :D

Actually, the 4 lbs kit is the can with the yeast, but I am using a different yeast as suggested by the homebrew hdqrtrs folks...
So should I start with this, then add a lb of the DME and then a lb of honey? This is all so new, and somewhat confusing!
Alrighty folks, going out on a limb with the second batch...:D
I have an Edme Wheat kit (4 lbs), and wanted to find out how/if I could add honey (and if so, when) to create a honey wheat style beer. I also purchased:
--a 3 lb bag of Muntons Wheat DME (55% wheat/45% barley) and
--American...
Howdy from Aggieland! I started my first brew Sunday and am hoping to go to secondary this coming Sunday. I kind of have two-three LHBS, DeFalco's in Houston, Austin Homebrew Supply, and Homebrew Headquarters in Richardson (depending on where I am traveling that week for work).
One question...
