    Beer smells like yeast

I dont think I roused the yeast too much when I was pouring, I left the last little bit in the bottle hoping to keep some of the yeast from getting into my glass. The smell lasted the whole time I was drinking the beer, from first sip to last. I let the bottles cold condition for about 5 days...

    Beer smells like yeast

Brewed a batch of the White House Honey Ale and tried one for the first time the other night. Beer was in primary for three weeks and carbed for three weeks, when I was bottling the beer everything looked and smelled fine. Opened one up the other night and its smells like yeast, funky yeast...

    First Time Long Time

Brewing tonight for the first time in a few months and I am extremely excited. Was doing 5 gallon BIABs but recently moved into an apartment in Northern VA and don't have the space to do 5 gallon so I bought a one gallon set up and the white house honey ale kit. Can't wait to get this brew...

    NB's Smashing Pumpkin Ale

I did the extract version of this brew last year. It was only my third brew so it could of been inexperience that produced the results but I wasn't a fan. After reading some of the comments on NB's website I decided to double the amount of spices at flameout, the beer came out very sweet and...

Switching out hops for a recipe

So I brewed this yesterday and I can only say that it was a terrible brewday. My plan was to get home from work around 530 and start it then, things got in the way and I ended up not starting until 930 or 10. Instead of using the mash volumes that beersmith gave me, I followed the directions...

Switching out hops for a recipe

the directions are to mash at 152 for 75 mins. The kit was a gift from a family member, I could always save the citra hops for a different beer if you dont think they would go well with the dark ipa. I wasn't even thinking about how the malts would be different for the kits...oh well hopefully...

Switching out hops for a recipe

the aa% was 14 for the citra hops I bought which gave the higher ibu I believe. The beer I tried had a dryer taste to it with the citrus flavors coming on strong, I will probably bumb one of the later additions to a full oz. The recipe is 3 gallons, its the northern brewer cascadian dark ale biab

Switching out hops for a recipe

So I finally got the kit for this recipe and have gotten the citra hops. Using Beersmith it gives the beer a 32 SRM and an IBU of 62. I looked at the specialty beer section for style guidelines and it seems to match what I've read. Can anyone tell me if I should decrease the IBUs at all to...

Switching out hops for a recipe

I went to a brewpub a few weeks ago and had their citra brown ale which I found delicious. I tried getting a clone recipe from them but had no luck, I'm thinking of just getting a brown ale kit and using citra hops instead of the palisades/cascade that comes with the kit. The beer at the pub...

Single bottle infections or something else?

For bottling and priming, I boil the priming sugar and cool it down and pour it to my bottling bucket and then siphon my beer into the bucket giving it a gentle swirl to mix it up. For my cleaning/sanatizing, I soak my bottles in warm water and oxiclean and then give them a quick scrub with a...

Single bottle infections or something else?

On my last batch of beer (english ipa) bout 4-5 of the bottles were gushers when I opened them. These bottles had an overly sweet taste with a sour aftertaste to them, the other bottles tasted fine and didnt have any off tastes to them. On the brew I started drinking a few weeks ago (belgian...

    What's your worst boil over?

I didn't know that boiling with a lid on the kettle was a bad thing to do so on my second brew I left the lid on. Looked like a volcano erupted all over the stove, was not fun to clean up

Well THAT was a total disaster...

I like your ideas for the adding the smaller second runnings into to 3.1 beer. Its also great that even with the monster you created youre going to do something with it instead of tossing it. good luck to you and hopefully it turns out ok
