    Cut keg top for false bottom?

    SWMBO made it for me. It's about 2 inches larger in diameter than the lid. She put a draw string around the edge so it's a simple matter to put the material down, put the lid on top, pull the draw string tight and tie it off. All I have to do is tuck the string in so it doesn't end up hanging...

    For larger gain bills I will use 1 mash paddle to hold it in place while stirring. For smaller grain bills I just stir gently. And since I bottom drain a little shifting side to side doesn't break the seal around the bottom.

    Haven't had to replace the fabric yet. To wash it I just hose it off like I would a stainless false bottom, making sure I get all the grain bits off. jeffl

    SWMBO made it about an inch larger than the lid. She then sewed a draw string into the outer edge. So unless the string or fabric fails, it's not going anywhere. I've done 10 batches using this false bottom, the largest used about 45lbs of grains. No problems so far. jeffl

    I built my MLT to have a bottom drain. Then took the top I cut out and made this . I cut pie shaped wedges and then covered it with a mesh material my SWMBO uses to make ``delicates'' wash bags. You can get the material at most any fabric store. Just make sure the holes in the material...
