    how dry is dry?

They should be in that moisture range even if you plan on keeping them as whole hops. Also bales of some high alpha hops that read in the 11 to 12 % will receive a free round trip ticket back to the farm. :D

    how dry is dry?

Anywhere from 8% to 10% moisture after drying is considered the optimum range. The freeze as soon as possible.

Sam Adams to lose craft beer status

First off Jim Koch can kiss my ***. He buys no American Hops. Never even brewed thier own beer until recently.(Still a small portion) He brewed beer in the Blitz Wheinhard brewery for Gods sake!:drunk: We've had discussions with them until we were blue in the face. Nothing but an elitest...

I fear I'm losing Mt. Hood!

2 side arms should start growing just below the broken tip. When they get long enough, train one of those on the string and cut off the other.

    Selling Homegrown Hops

Again I ask. Why would a LHBS buy "bulk" Hops without knowing what the BV was and then not put the BV on thier own repackaged bags? If I bought Hops from a store, I would want to know what I was getting. Take Nuggets, they will range from 8% to 16% alpha from one grower to the other in the same...

    Selling Homegrown Hops

Why would any LHBS sell something like Hops and then not be able to tell the customer what the BV is?

    2010 Hops Gardens

Yo David. That's us! We own the double picker in the big yellow building about 1 1/2 miles South of the Ferry. Our Hop yards start right across from the Willamette Mission State Park and continue along most of Wheatland Rd. then East along Brooklake headed to the freeway. Stop by and say Howdy...

    Selling Homegrown Hops

I'm sure they know the people they buy thier fish from(So does every large brewer that buys Hops)...but they are still "commercial" fishermen. As to the Farmers Market aspect. That's fine. Grower to user. After that, We are talking a third party transaction. You need to CYA.(Cover your ass!)

    Selling Homegrown Hops

Not sure if this has been brought up on this thread yet. (Seems everything else has:p) But I think the main problem would be any liablity issues that could get back to the LHBS from customers claiming they got sick or ? from something that was purchased from him. Wrong/illegal chemicals applied...

    growing hops in FL

Heat, Hot, Cold really have nothing to do with a good crop of Hops. It's Light, Light, Light. Esp. How many hours You get during the growing season. Northern climes(45th ish) are ideal for setting Hop burrs. South Africa tried to grow Hops and had to use Giant grow lights to simulate longer days.

Hops 1 foot then stop growing?

Dig up a couple of them. If they are not stiff and have little hairy white roots on them, they are toast. Either they never sprouted roots to begin with or You have something chewing on them(Nematodes). Seems strange they would do it 2 years in a row?!?

    Only bine got cut/broken. Help!

Normally when a Hop vine looses a head or the top part of the shoot, There will be side arms that will start coming out. Take one of the top two and train that to your string and that will become the dominate grower.
