    Upgrading Equipment

Up until my last batch I was using water from the tap. My last brew I bought RO water from the store and that beer turned out better. Moving forward I’ll probably use store bought water. Do you have any suggestions for which types of water would be best?

    Upgrading Equipment

Much appreciated! I think I’ll start with the fermentation chamber, see how that goes and then upgrade to kegging on the next beer. Also, you nailed it with how your first beers turned out. It just tastes like home brew. Doesn’t taste bad but not good either. So far I’ve made one amber, one...

    Upgrading Equipment

I’m not wanting to get into all grain just yet. Just trying to figure out if there’s anything I can buy to help or if I need to refine my process.

    Upgrading Equipment

Hi all, I’ve made 4, 5 gallon extract brews since I’ve started brewing and have yet to make a beer that I actually enjoy drinking. Every time they taste just a bit off from what I think they should taste like and aren’t really enjoyable to drink more than one of. I made sure that I am cleaning...

    Fermentation chamber doubling as keezer?

I actually don’t have a specific fridge yet. I was just going to go with a mini fridge to conserve on space. My thinking behind it is to use it as a fermentation chamber while fermenting. Then once I’ve kegged, crank the temperature down. I’m sure down the road I can add an actual Keezer if I...

    Fermentation chamber doubling as keezer?

I’m getting ready to build a fermentation chamber to up my brewing game. I’ll be using a mini fridge. Taking the door off, installing a collar and then reinstalling the door. If possible, I’d really like for this to double as a keezer as well. I’m tired of bottling and would like to get into...

    What did i do wrong?

Thank you everyone for the reply’s. I was mostly concerned that i may have done something wrong with the flameout hop additions since i hadn’t done that before. I may look into a hop filter to use during boils so i can avoid this in the future. As far as the fermenter goes, NB advertises the...

    What did i do wrong?

This is good to hear! I may try what you recommended of wedging the fermenter a but to help it settle away from the spigot. worst case scenario i’ll buy an auto siphon and not use the spigot when racking to the bottling bucket.

    What did i do wrong?

this was all being poured from the boil kettle to the primary fermenter. what i mean is that there was a lot of debris from what i assume to be the hops that got into the primary fermenter... i just wanted to be sure i did everything correctly since i’ve never had this much trub in the fermenter...

    What did i do wrong?

Hi all, just finished brewing up a Sierra Madre Pale Ale extract kit from Northern Brewer. this is my third time brewing so not sure if I actually did something wrong or not. There is a large amount of trub (that’s the right term correct?) at the bottom of the fermenter... it’s above the spigot...

    Partial boil pitching temps

The Hefeweizen definitely has a banana aroma, which is fine with me as I like it. But there is still something off about it, it has a bite to it, almost like an alcohol taste. the fermentation room is in my basement so the temperatures are stable. During the summer the temperature typically...

    Partial boil pitching temps

i appreciate the feedback. The first beer was first time I had ever brewed so I had no idea what I was doing really, I was just following the directions from the kit. It wasn’t until my second beer that I realized temperature was important. I know for my second beer (Hefeweizen) the wort was 70...

    Partial boil pitching temps

No clue what the temp was on the first one, that one turned out hardly drinkable. It has almost a rubbery/plastic taste along with a flat beer taste. The second one was a Hefeweizen that turned out descent but had almost too much banana and almost has an alcohol taste to it. I’m thinking I’m...

    Partial boil pitching temps

Hi all, Im planning on brewing my 3rd beer sometime next week, NB Sierra Madre Pale Ale (extract). I’ve had issues with each of my first two brews which I think I’ve narrowed down to pitching and fermentation temps being too high. I plan on pitching at about 61 or 62 degrees using Safale US-05...
