Here's the deal...
I think this is a solid recipe from Austin Homebrew. The SRM, flavor and aroma are pretty right on. If I was going to use Jamil's standard for "is it a clone"... I'd have to say "not exactly". In other words if I brewed it again I'd change a few things. My general rule...
Going into the Keg tomorrow. Hard to measure the SRM while in fermentor but the color looks right. I'll publish my opinion along with brewing process and fermentation details soon.
Well, I bought the kit and it has a truck load of hops. They use sugar instead of honey though. I have one recipe in front of this one so it will be a few weeks before I get to it. I'll let you know.
Need some help with a judgment call. I'm just getting ready to brew and noticed that the hops I ordered from Austin Homebrew are not what I expected. When I ordered them the alpha acid was supposed to be 2.XX%. I'm holding them in my hands and the packaging says 4.8%.
So my Belgian triple is...
Fermenting in the low to mid 70's for this style can sometimes produce odd flavors. Esters and fusel alchohols can combine to make some really interesting flavors. Not always what you like in an IPA.
I had similar issues before really getting a handle on fermentation temps. For this style...
I've been working on my fall brewing schedule and was thinking about doing Jamil's Black Forest Stout (from his book Brewing Classic Styles). Has anyone brewed this beer? If so how did it turn out?
I've been eying the Austin Home Brew clone for Hopslam but have yet to pull the trigger. This seems like a complex IIPA and I'm wondering if anyone has brewed this version from Austin?
If so what hops where in it and did it clone close to the original?
And it fits two Corny with the Co2 tank? Did you have to modify it?
Also it looks like its been discontinued as well. No one has it in stock and most sites say they no longer stock it.
Thanks for sharing the info... the search goes on.
Looking for the smallest fridge that will hold 2 5gal kegs and 5# co2. For some reason the few that I see many of you using are discontinued.
I don't have a lot of spare space so trying to avoid using the chest freezer or full size fridge. Cost is also an issue.
Searched the forums...
Local HB shop was out of Carapils so I picked up some maltodextrin powder. Anyone use the powder that can offer feedback? Do I mash the powder or add to the boil? Also are there any concerns with using the powder (off-flavors, over caramelisation etc)?
All,
Just assembling my all grain kit and ran into a snag. The supplier I've ordered the burner from is out of the 180k btu that I ordered. He sent an email saying he would substitute with a KAB4 which has 210k BTU. Is this overkill for my 10 gallon brew pot? At the same cost should I...
Thanks for the post!
They also have the great prices on burners!!! thank you.
Last piece I need now is a grain mill. Was thinking that I could make one but... not sure if crushing the grain to fine would impact the mash. Do the manufactured grain mills have standardized specs?
$130...
