New recipe I'm trying out tonight;
4qts/gallon of water
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 Tbsp Blackstrap molasses
1/8 cup Sassafras
1/8 cup Sarsparilla
1/8 cup Birch Bark
3 Allspice balls
6 Juniper Berries
1 Cloves
2 Cardamon seeds (the tiny seeds, not the pods)
2 Small (paper thin) Lime...
After sufficient chilling; although this recipe has come out a bit better than my other experiments (as all were too sweet, had too much licorice, anise, not enough spice, etc....) I think I may have added too much Sarsparilla. The Beer has a somewhat 'odd' aftertaste reminiscent of cardboard...
It'd probably be acceptable in either forum since it's a little bit of both, hahah!
You just letting yours ferment longer than you would for a soda or are there any extra steps?
Also did you use sassafras? I finally broke own and ordered some on amazon for a good price; i just can't find any...
