    Belgian Fermentation without offgassing?

I had something similar, no bubbling during few days, but when pressing the lid there was air, or rather CO2, going from the airlock. I pressed the sides of the lid and felt how it was actually not properly closed. Trust your gravity readings and try the beer, it is likelly ok. Also smell the...

    Plastic e-kettle?

So I had a while to check your system bit more, hrafnkell, and I just have one question: You are really not using any pump, right? You can make BIAB directly witout problems? Just stirring while the elements are on to make sure heat is distributed evenly...

    Plastic e-kettle?

Yes of course stainless is better option but out of my tiny budget. I will be following your instructions. I hope I can have it ready in a couple of weeks. Thank you all!!

    Plastic e-kettle?

Good to see that I am not the only crazy guy to think about it, and actually lot of people did it before me... Of course I had to do some research to convince myself that this is not dangerous. Anyway I already use polypropylene for boiling water and microwaving my lunch every day... By the...

    Plastic e-kettle?

After making some research, I must disagree about the HDPE. True it is that usually those containers have thicker walls than fermentation bins, but the melting point of HDPE is 130ºC and of PP is around 160ºC, and wikipedia says it can withstand "autoclaving conditions", but HDPE can't.

    Plastic e-kettle?

Interesting, it's cheap and easier to do than drilling a SS or aluminium kettle, welding etc... And the capacity is huge for the price of course... As usual opinions in brewing world vary, but what is yours? Is it reliable on the long term or the bins will stand just a couple of boils? Any...

    Plastic e-kettle?

Hi, I have been thinking about going electric, but in a rather very cost effective way. I am almost decided to go in the heatstick direction, when I saw this video: Is it really ok to use a fermentation bucket as a kettle??!! Thanks!

    Kiss ag??

Maybe I am going too deep with this, but at least try to check the mineral contents of your water and if you can actually brew the beer you are trying to with your water. You can do it with Palmers xls file and a water report. In my first AG I did not check it and got a really bad efficiency...

    Kasza Gryczana (roasted buckwheat) experiment

Hi! I am planing to make a 5l experimental batch using roasted buckwheat (known as kasza in Poland) as an adjunct. I have been looking for information in the internet but did not find that much... I would like to use around 30% of my grain bill of buckwheat; rest pilsen so the effect of the...

    Probable infection in bottles

Yep, looks like compact sediment escaped from the bottom of the bottle as my friend put the bottles lying in the fridge. Strange that it's floating though. Thank you!!

    Probable infection in bottles

Hello and sorry for asking this once again but I cant find the same problem. I brewed my first batch some weeks ago from a brewkit. Everything looked ok untill yesterday. I only have a dozen of bottles left and everything was alright but yesterday I poured a bottle into a glass like I have...

    Micro micro-brewing

Sure! In my second batch, I checked the usual hops of the region (Marynka and Lublin) and used Qbrew and some online calculators to contrast the IBU calculations I made from Palmer to adapt a recipe, or more exactly several similar recipes, to my ingredients. Also I considered the ratio...

    Micro micro-brewing

Thank you dunnright00, you completely answered my question. Thank you unionrdr, Golddiggie and KevinW. I see I am just trying to fly before starting the engines. Ill stick with extracts for a while, but I was just wondering if it will turn out really bad to make 1-2G batches so I can try...
