Newbie with yet another dumb question...

Did you taste any on bottling day? What kind of chemical aftertaste? Time heals a lot of things, be patient and wait another week (or 2) before trying another one.

How much did you pay for your turkey fryer?

$14.94 at Target on clearance, a couple weeks after thanksgiving a couple years ago. Came with big aluminum pot, thermometer, strainer basket, etc (all of which I've never used) but the burner is pretty nice!

    Are my bottles carbonating enough?

3 weeks at 70, then a couple days in the fridge. Pour into glass and enjoy! But for the mean time, enjoy the Mothership Wit, that stuff is delicious!

    Wine Fridge Uses?

I use my 32 bottle wine fridge as a fermentation/aging chamber. I do 3 gallon batches exclusively, so the lil carboy fits perfect.

    Mashed at 156??? not 153

No issue at all. It's supposedly over 170 degrees when the tannins will be extracted from the grain. 153 to 156 you probably won't tell a difference.

    Phoenix Second Year Hops

Yeah all 3 of my plants have sun burnt leaves, but mostly on the bottom 3 feet. Still growing and happy, so I'm living with it. I'll leave the leaves to shade the other non-burnt leaves. The Golding plant has burnt leaf tips all the way up, but it's not too bad. I changed the settings on the...

    Phoenix Second Year Hops

My 1st year Phoenix hops are doing decent. Chinook: 12-13 foot tall, good amount of cones, should get 1-2oz in about 2 weeks. Goldings: 8-9 foot tall, small cone buds starting, but leaves are starting to get burnt. Cascade: Topped out a 6.5 foot, trying to form little cones.

Anyone out there brew smaller than 5 gallon batches?

I do 1 and 3 gallon batches exclusively. The 1 gallons are for apfelwein, and the 3 gallon for ales. Since I don't drink more than 3-4 beers a week, it allows me to brew more often! The batches are cheaper too :) Same amount of work (except bottling), but that adds to experience I suppose. Also...

    Beer pics from Vegas

Don't waste your time with Gordon Biersch. Think of a true belgian wit, then think of Blue Moon. This is what Gordon Biersch does to ALL of their beers.

    3 Gallon Carboy Dimensions?

Rough measurements of a 3 gallon glass carboy: 9" diameter 12.5" to shoulder 16.75" to top 20.25" to top of inserted 3pc airlock with universal stopper

    De-labeling bottles

Not sure as I rarely drink Rogue stuff, but I'll have to buy a bottle just to try to remove the label! Mmmm Mocha Porter :)

What do you do with your spent grains?

I just made these spent grain chocolate chip cookies. I must admit, they are damn tasty! harvette.net » Spent Grain Cookies I did the version 2 recipe and baked for 12 minutes.

Any drawback at all for 3 gallon batches?

I do 3 gallon batches, simply because I can brew more often and have more variety. The recipes are cheaper too. I use beersmith to scale a 5 gallon recipe down. Yes it is the same amount of work as a 5 gallon batch, but the smaller carboy is much easier to deal with :)
