    English Barleywine Fireside Barleywine

The beer turned out really great with the smoked malt. The first few months in bottles it was almost overpowered with smokiness. Today it's great & very enjoyable. If you drop the gravity, I would certainly recommend you reduce the amount of smoked malt. Your best bet is to determine what...

Brew day was 3/6/11 and it went well. I think our crush was less than ideal though, which led to an OG of 1.094. According to BeerSmith we should have been around 1.110 OG. I racked it to secondary on 3/20/11 and the gravities were a little varied 1.020, 1.016, 1.014, and 1.018. I didn't...

Forgot to mention.. part of it is going to be aged in freshly emptied whiskey barrels (I'm thinking 10-15 because we'll either be getting two or three 5 gallon barrels - the distiller hasn't let us know how many he'll part with).

Thanks for posting the recipe. My local club will be coming over to my place on March 6th to brew 20 gallons (2x10 gallon batches) of this! We're planning on making 2 small beers (5 gals each) and are still debating what they'll end up as.. I'm leaning towards either a Bitter or EPA or maybe...

    Beer Leaking from Corny Keg

I've got a corny that's full of a recent pumpkin ale, its carbonated.. line in is fine. When I attach the line out it leaks out of the (i'm guessing) the poppet valve - the little circle you can depress with your finger. It's a pretty fresh fill/carb, so the beer will be there for a while...

Quick Disconnect, Shirron and Brewpot Question...

Shouldnt the parts be 1/2"? According to Northern Brewer: "This chiller has 1/2" NPT threaded male hookups for the wort, and male Garden Hose fittings for the chilling and waste water. Wort may be pumped or gravity fed through the chiller."\ NEVERMIND, I obviously didnt read your...

Sam Adams to lose craft beer status

If ANY of their beers still tasted like they did 4-5 years ago.. I'd call it craft. Now it all tastes like main stream garbage. Tax the hell out of them.

    Imperial Porter recipe

According to World Beer Cup competition info, an Imperial Porter can also fall under the following: "12. Other Strong Ale or Lager Any style of beer can be made stronger than the classic style guidelines. The goal should be to reach a balance between the style's character and the...

    Is my beer infected?

Take a look at the following link (not sure if the picture came through from Photobucket): India Brown Ale picture by jacobiwj - Photobucket This is an India Brown Ale that has been in secondary for about 5-6 weeks. I've been waiting on the "stuff" at the top to fall, but it's taking...
