What's going on - low gravity?

For Noeldundas, I did know about the SG and temp, used Beer Recipator, Hydrometer correction calculator. For water volumes I used Brew365.com mash/sparge water calculator. Being my second AG I am still trying to dial in my equipment, it seems I am boiling off more then I estimate. First AG...

What's going on - low gravity?

Well that was my thought too how you can end of with a OG the same as the pre boil gravity, but I checked my readings several times and that is what it said (believe it or not). Again, my pre boil volume was 7.5 g, my ending volume was 5g (had less then 2 qt in bottom of 15.5 keggle that I...

What's going on - low gravity?

I collected 5g in the fermentor. The LHBS that I bought the grain from, crushed it for me, do not know what they did. After dough in I waited 5 minutes, stirred the mash, checked the temp, then let it set for the 60 min. Batch sparged the 6 g, stirred for a couple of minutes then let sit...

What's going on - low gravity?

Brewed my 2nd AG today, an IPA. Took all my lessons from the first one and applied to this one, everything seemed to go OK. Hit my mash temp of 152, lost 1.3 degrees in 60 minutes. First runnings was 2g. from a 1.25 ratio, had 11 lbs of grain. Sparged with 6g , 180 degree water, stirred...

    Keggle Dip Tube?

I used my 15.5 g keggle for the first time yesterday, after several searches on making a dip tube I settled on a 1/2 copper bent 90 degrees in center of keg and added a SS mesh scrubbie at the bottom. Needless to say it did not work, it immediately clogged with sediment and no liquid exited...

    Water for AG

The amounts I mentioned in original post came from the pro-mash schedule I downloaded from NB for this all grain kit I bought from them. I am concerned about the boil off, so it sounds from your info is to go to at least 6 g. pre-boil wort?

    Water for AG

I will be attempting my first AG on Saturday, question concerning water for mash and wort size. The pro mash report says to 11.5 quarts of water for the mash, if you go over on the amount will this affect the wort? Second , question is pre-boil amount is 5.88 gal. any easy way of measuring...

    1st AG Mash In Question

I will be doing my first AG, it is a ESB AG kit purchased from NB. Instructions from NB say slowly add grist to the water in the tun. John Palmer book specifically says add water to grain. Advice on why the difference and which is the preferred method? Thanks T.
