    Frustrated with AG....

The vorlauf will help, the other thing I did (I have a pickup tube at the bottom of mine) is that I went and purchased a 3 pack of stainless steel scrubbers from Target (like you use to scour pans in the kitchen) and i create a secondary filter around the tube. I used to get a ton of grain...

    pond pump and CFC?

This is way overkill, but for me not having to buy adapters for my immersion chiller and just use existing hoses was more beneficial. http://www.harborfreight.com/16-horsepower-submersible-utility-pump-68422.html I just put it in a 6 dollar party tub (with the rope handles) filled with water...

    controlling boil "violence"

I use FemcapS as a biol control, not electronic but works pretty darn well for my system, and it is cheap.

Add honey to keg for sweetness?

Just to add a note that might not be quite on topic, I just primed a Nut brown using the darkest honey I could find, in this case it was avocado honey. We had a split batch so we can directly taste the difference in the non-honey vs. the honey primed (used dextrose for the non-honey). There is...

Calculating Water properly for my next batch

AJF- Thanks for noticing that!!!! I had forgotten them, went by the LHS to pick up the specialty grains. I am not used to using the BCS book and forgot to look at the original recipe. I picked up .5LBS of the rice hulls, since they weigh nothing I figured they would be cheap insurance...

Calculating Water properly for my next batch

If I add in a couple of pounds of rice hulls do I need to account for any sort of absorbancy that they might add?

Brewing a Witbier- How to grind the malted wheat?

I will check on my mill, I think it is a maltmaster, but will have to see when I get home. I do have a pound of rice hulls I plan on adding in, I will probably do a stir every 10 minutes during my mash but let it sit the last 20 minutes in order to set the grain bed.

Brewing a Witbier- How to grind the malted wheat?

Pretty self evident from the title. I am brewing an all grain witbier this weekend, and I already have picked up my ingredients. I have a malt mill for barley, but I have not looked at enough to know if the rollers are adjustable. One of my local brewer friends said to just blitz everything...

    Graham's English Cider

Well I went ahead and started this last night, ended up getting treetop sinced is was half the cost of the unfiltered. Bubbling away after 30 minutes and lots of nice activity this morning ( started last night). Looking forward to this, I just know now that I am going to have to go get another...

    Graham's English Cider

I have one other question, I am finding both filtered and unfiltered cider at the store, I just wondered if someone had tried using the unfiltered for this recipe yet?

Just started and want to talk

I have not been to the place in anthem, I live in the south east valley so the only time I go to anthem is to head up further north. BevoMo did have the magners, the only other place I have seen it at is at LeeLee's oriental market in Chandler (might be a drive depending on where you are) but...

Just started and want to talk

Woot, another cider fin in Phx, I am going to be trying to make my own cider here shortly. I am also a fan of carbonated ciders. If you like the dry english ones, look around at BevMo and Total Wine, they have started carrying Magners cider (Irish cider) in 20 oz bottles. Great stuff, got...

    Winter Brewer in Phoenix

Greetings one and all. My name is Sean, I live down in Phoenix AZ so that pretty much allows me to brew anytime except the summer here. I put together a kit from the local homebrew shop and have so far made two different extract brews: a vanilla porter (bottled) and a fat tire clone...
