Recipe Critique: "Brew Year's Day" Dunkel Weizenbock (?)

Hey Brew fans, I came up with a recipe a while back for a dark lager using the Breiss Midnight Wheat. I didn't have a target style in mind - I just wanted to experiment a bit to hit some of my own targets for IBUs, SRM, and hop profile. I figured it would be closest to a black lager, but...

Ithaca Flower Power Clone - Thoughts?

It is a very balanced bitterness. I think 130 IBUs would be downright unpleasant given the flavor that 75 IBUs provides. The magic is less in the boil hops and more in the dry hops. The dry hops shouldn't figure into the total IBUs, so that may be where someone got 130 from - by entering dry...

Ithaca Flower Power Clone - Thoughts?

Dry hop day 6 - I tasted the beer and it is amazing :rockin:. Smells of passionfruit and grapefruit, tastes very balanced with a good bitterness and a great mouthfeel. I made the mistake with the Whitbread yeast of allowing the fermentation temperature to drop too low during primary...

Ithaca Flower Power Clone - Thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback! I figured as much with the FG. I intended this to be one of those "instructional" beers in that I would learn something new about my process/recipe/brewing skills each time I made it. I already learned one thing - I ALWAYS need to start off with a blowoff tube. I...

Ithaca Flower Power Clone - Thoughts?

Okay, brewed today. Made some modifications to the recipe (see http://hopville.com/recipe/1266227/american-ipa-recipes/flower-power-clone). Mashed at 154 degrees for 75 mins, mashed out and batch sparged to approx 9 gallons. Boiled for about 110-120 mins to get down to the volume I wanted. OG...

Ithaca Flower Power Clone - Thoughts?

So, I went with the Whitbread yeast from Wyeast. The starter is vortexing on the stir plate as I type. I decided I'm going to use some pilsner malt in place of the two row as well.

    Bottling from keg

Here's a thought - if you have a decent sized bucket, you could immerse the bottle in ice water while you are filling it. The important thing is that the bottle temperature is less than that of the beer. Did you release all the pressure on the keg before dropping your psi down to 4?

    Another Fizzy Yellow Beer

Sounds a lot like the recipe in the most recent BYO for Classic American Pilsner, which I just put into the keg a couple weeks ago. The Saaz in that recipe was good, but Jamil mentioned using Cluster as well to keep it more "American". Any 'soft' bittering hop would be good. Amarillo may...

Ithaca Flower Power Clone - Thoughts?

Regarding the grain bill, I've seen several different recipes listed for the Flower Power. The one I've seen the most is the american 2 row and the honey with acidulated if necessary. Agreed. For a mega-hopped beer like this, you need to do a full boil or else you will not get the hop...

    Budweiser clone

It sounds like the Classic American Pilsner morphed into the Standard American lager over the years at Anheuser-Busch and other American mega-breweries. As Jamil said, the Classic American Pilsner is "your grandfather's Budweiser". Ahh, the evolution of brewing. That article was my...
