    Super slow fermentation

After 20+ years and countless batches I'm not about to give up now. However I like your moon phase theory :ban: I can sleep soundly now. psusan, I'd make a yeast starter and get it going good then pitch it into your batch. If it doesn't work then you have at least eliminated the yeast as...

    Super slow fermentation

I normally don't take a reading because I am usually in too big a hurry. Yes, I always rehydrate my yeast for 15 minutes or more in warm water before pitching. Aerate well after pitching and before I top off the carboy. Tending not to think the cocoa is the only cause because I've brewed with...

    Super slow fermentation

Brewing for me has always gone pretty much the same. Pour the wort into a 5 gal carboy, pitch the yeast, hard steady fermentation & foam blowing off the next morning, pretty much done in 6~10 days. Not this time, very slow but steady fermentation that remained at the same pace for several weeks...

    Bulging caps

Chilled one with a bulging top, donned gloves/jacket/grinding mask & opened it tonight, barely made any noise when opening, never foamed out of the bottle. It did however foam too much when poured. Since none have blown in the last 6 months think I'll let sleeping dogs lie and wait until...

    storing beer

Go to a local bar or restaurant and ask them for some empty cases & 6 pack carriers. My assistant works in a bar and they throw tons of them out every week. Your best bet is to find out from them when they restock the coolers and go at that time. You'll get more than you need in no time.

    Bulging caps

Finished brewing and bottling a Russian Imperial Stout in late December. Put both cases in the basement where the temps stay in the mid 60s in winter, in the mid 70s now. I did drink one bottle in mid April just to see if things turned out OK, everything seemed fine, the beer was great. I do not...

    You can't use enough Fermcap-S (anti-foam agent)

Same here (probably got it at the same place), I had to cut off the top of the dropper so I could get it out. Per directions on the bottle I used 1/4 tsp in my 3~3.5 gallon boil, was starting to foam as I got to a boil - killed it immediately. Did not add it to the primary as suggested by the...

How long to fill a bottle?

Nope, the lid is on there loosely (so I don't have to wrestle it off to clean later) and the hole for the airlock is empty too so there's plenty of airflow into the bucket. I've used it to bottle twice (12 oz bottles) and it's worked the same both times. Like I said, I had one a while back just...

How long to fill a bottle?

I bought a new bottle filler, clear tube, orange spring loaded end. How long does yours take to fill a bottle? Mine takes 55 seconds, every time. It took me well over an hour to bottle a batch of brew the last time. I had one before and don't remember it taking anywhere near that long. The place...
