Danstar London ESB Stall - Recovery Techniques?

Thanks for all your replies, figuring out the attenuation (OG was 71), it looks like it's at 63% so I suspect it's done. I mashed at 67C (153F). The recipe is attached. Tropical Stout by hopsauce posted Feb 5, 2018 at 6:27 PM The sample tastes too sweet, so I might try a US-05 to drop it a...

Danstar London ESB Stall - Recovery Techniques?

Hi, I just checked the FG of my Tropical Stout after just over 2 weeks and it's 1.026, 10 points too high according to Beersmith (and the recipe). I used my usual technique, pitched at 18C and ramped up to 22C over the course of a few days. The yeast was a repitch of the slurry from my...

Dry Hopped Berliner Weisse - Which BJCP Category?

Hi, I have brewed a berliner weisse and i'd like to dry hop a portion of it and enter it in competition. My question is, which category should I enter this in? I've tried google and had no luck. I've seen Gordon's post that fruited berliners should be entered in the fruit beer category, but...

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

That's it! I set up the temp sensors but not the cooler / heater! What a complete muppet I am. This kolsch might turn out a bit interesting....the temp only got up to 18.5C so it may not be all lost....

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

Hi, I've updated to 2.4.1, i'm using a thermowell and i'm really confused by the performance. No matter what, it seems to not cool? The beer is sitting 1.5C over and it's just idling. The fridge temp is even higher - I don't get it? It's set to beer constant and seems to not be doing anything...

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

OK. This issue occurred before I upgraded. However, I have just erased the EEProm and resetup the device inputs and this seems to have resolved things. Thanks!

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

Hi, My brewpiless setup has stopped functioning correctly. I turned it on after about a month of not using it and the everything looks fine on the OLED, but I can't get past 'Communicating with BrewPiLess controller..' on the web interface. It was on version v2.3.3, I tried updated to 2.4 but...

    Yeast rinsing / repitching help?

Thanks for the prompt reply, yeah I harvested the slurry yesterday. I'm confused because I tried to follow the process perfectly and it went nothing like described! I think i'll overpitch vs the calculators given i'm not too sure of the composition of what i've harvested. So to repitch...

    Yeast rinsing / repitching help?

Hi, I attempted to 'rinse' the kolsch yeast from my previous blonde ale to repitch. I haven't done it before and I tried to follow the procedure from how to brew (which was similar to many online). However, I found that the yeast / trub layer didn't separate at all (just a hazy mess), so I...

Fermentation Issues - Not sure what else to change?

The last IPA I dry hopped in the keg and didn't purge with the hops in place. That beer tasted syrupy/sherry after say 2 months - I need to try some sherry again to tune my palette. It was much drier when new. I believe this is different but could be wrong, the beer is only ~2 weeks old - It...

Fermentation Issues - Not sure what else to change?

Hi Northern Brewer, Thanks for your feedback. I'll confirm the FG again and check with my hydrometer and refractometer and do some checks on each. I'm not sure that I agree on the temp comments, however your OGs comments make sense. I'm starting to question the quality of the repackaged...

Fermentation Issues - Not sure what else to change?

Full water and recipe information is as below (Gladiator is a carapils equivalent). Water profile is from local water report. Mash temp was 152F and I add campden to the water (1/2 tablet) - Full volume mash (BIAB with no sparge). McKnuckle, it could be oxidation because I believe the...

Fermentation Issues - Not sure what else to change?

Hi, I've been brewing for a few years and I've been trying to step up my knowledge and the quality of brews. I've had a couple of repeat fails brewing IPAs. I've brewed some reasonable other beers but my last 2x IPAs have had fermentation issues (as confirmed by a BJCP judge and my average...

OK, thanks. To save rebuilding it (i'm using an OLED) i'll just wait and see if you add it to 2.4 :) Thanks!
