I recently did that recipe and it came out really well except that I would double the amount of orange peel since that really didn't come through for my batch.
I've just recently obtained a 3-gallon keg and used it for the first time at a Memorial Day picnic...it was a hit. Also, if you get a cube cooler (48 qt I think), it will fit in there nicely and you can pack ice around it. I like this just to have another alternative.
I was about to get one from Home Depot and I thought I would check Craigslist. Found one for $75 just listed this morning so I figured it was meant to be.
Thanks for the pictures...I'll be assembling this next week.
I purchased both the SP10 from Amazon and the SQ14 from Home Depot at different times. Both came with the 10PSI braided hose so you need to make sure of what you are getting. I've gone up to 9 gallons preboil on both of them and the SQ14 was slightly quicker by a couple of minutes.
Are there oak chips that are already flavored with Jack Daniels? If so, where do you get them?
Also, is that recommended or is it better to simply soak oak chips in JD?
2 questions and a comment...
(1) Where do you get Jack Daniel's oak chips?
(2) Do you have to do anything to sanitize the oak chips before adding them to the fermenter?
I've been putting together a recipe for something similar, but now a bourbon barrel scotch ale has me thinking.
That is interesting and you would think there would be a way of differentiating the different configurations.
As for the ones from Amazon, me and a friend of mine both ordered an SP10 in the last 4-5 months and both came with the braided hose but the regulator was very clearly marked as...
I ordered the same one a while back and it came with a 10 PSI braided hose from Amazon. It has been fine for 5 gal batches; however, I'm planning to upgrade the regulator and step up to 10 gallon batches soon.
I've been wanting a single tier structure but I've never welded anything so that gives me some ideas. As long as the wood near the burners is protected, that looks like a good setup.
I wonder what his story is for getting rid of everything...I can't imagine not ever brewing again!!!
I have recently acquired a Blichmann 14 gallon for which I use for both primary and secondary fermentation. I have only been doing ales and I leave them in there a total of 3 weeks.
I have two small boys and a lot of competing priorities so I only get to brew about once a month so it works...
Just picked up a 10-gallon cooler from Home Depot yesterday. It looked like it had been sitting there for over a year and was very dirty, but nothing a little PBW couldn't clean. Rang up for 39.95.
My question now is who has added a "through wall" thermometer and has anyone documented what...
Interesting...I just checked mine again and it is definitely 10 PSI; however, I suppose it would handle the 20PSI just fine since that is what their website lists now. I bought it about a year ago from Amazon so I wonder if I was shipped the wrong regulator.
