Thanks for your excellent advice! The mistakes per batch of beer is decreasing as i keep brewing. I also got a habit of over thinking things so i am glad to hear the abv will only go up to 9.1%. ^_^

This f*** up happened because i forgot that i scaled down the recipe by half so i added twice as much (454g) maple syrup as i was supposed to. The recipe says it will be 8.5% ABV. The Wyeast 1084 will die at 12%. So can I assume the yeast will kill itself before the bottling time comes...

Wouldn't maris otter be better for the base malt? The 2 row works fine but maris otter is the premium stuff.

Yeah i had to resort to using the kettle as a mash tun with the bazooka screen. I hate how fast that thing losses heat because metal is very conductive. I put a lot of insulation around it but i still undershot the mash temp. So i had a three hour mash with boiling parts of it and adding back in.

I tried to make a DIY mash tun from a rectangular plastic picnic basket. I made the hole but realized the wall is too thick to fit the nut and washer. I was only able to fit the rubber ring and bazooka screen adapter. The ring certainly has a bigger diameter than the adapter. The outside looks...
