10 gal Igloo drink cooler difficulties

Ok. Think I got the basic layout figured out, but all I could find at the local Home Depot was a rubber washer meant for a garden hose. I assembled it and there aren't any leaks, but is this safe to use in a mash? I can look around for a silicone washer or just cut one from one of those baking...

10 gal Igloo drink cooler difficulties

Making the switch to all grain from smaller batch BIAB, and I started the process as outlined by https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/cheap-easy-10-gallon-rubbermaid-mlt-conversion-23008/ First couple runs through I experimented with different numbers of washers and such to get a watertight seal...

    BIAB trub loss

Awesome. Thanks all. I did plan on using voile for the grains and hop sock, so this is perfect.

    BIAB trub loss

I plan on moving to 3-gallon BIAB batches soon from extract and I'm trying to get my water volumes down. How much trub loss can I expect from my brewpot and the fermenter, typically?

    Siphon hoses - food grade?

I checked the local hardware stores for food-grade vinyl, but I didn't think to ask a bout alternatives. I'll check into that. Thanks. My LHBS is severely lacking. It's really more of a specialty wine and craft beer store that dedicated a small corner to brewing supplies, so I can see how they...

    Siphon hoses - food grade?

Does siphon tubing need to be food-grade for transferring cooled wort or fermented beer? I'm having a royal pain finding food-grade where I live, but regular tubing is plentiful. LHBS (if you can call it that) only sells it packaged with a cane, which I don't need and I don't feel like paying...

Equipment thoughts for a new brewer

Awesome advice, guys. Thank you. I figured the wort chiller would be probably one of the more important things. Looking into making my own. Doesn't seem to be too hard so I may as well give it a go.

Equipment thoughts for a new brewer

I don't. I do plan on building the Son of Fermentation chamber for that fairly soon. Bocks are my thing so I definitely want to get lagering capability soon. I think I can get the equipment for it fairly inexpensively and it would work well with my apartment floorplan. Fairly minimal space...

Equipment thoughts for a new brewer

Hi all. First post here but I've been a lurker for some time. Love the forum and thank you all for the info I've gotten here. I'm a new brewer. Just one extract batch under the belt but I know for sure I want to continue this hobby. It was one of the funnest things I've done and I know it...
