    Wine Rack Plans???

MVD, I'm glad it worked out for you. I haven't brewed in nearly 2 years and have been inactive on this site, but I'm planning to brew a Rye IPA very soon, so I jumped back in here to see what I've missed. It was nice to see I was able to help out. The wine rack looks great.

    My First Stuck Mash!!

Good question. What you're describing is basically brew-in-a-bag. A lot of people use this method, but the only time I've used a bag for my mash is on that one stuck sparge. The issue I had with using the bag was mostly that it was a pain in the butt to work with. I couldn't stir the mash...

    My First Stuck Mash!!

Ooh, fun. I've only had one stuck mash. It was a rye IPA that I was brewing for a club competition. I tried stirring to clear the bazooka screen in my mash tun, but that didn't work and eventually I had to scoop all of the grains into a paint strainer and then batch sparge through the...

I think I've been an idiot

Well, I think "idiot" is a little harsh. We all have to learn somehow and none of us will ever know it all.

    Don't Order from Harbor Freight

I bought a 1/2" low speed drill from Harbor Freight (in store, not mail order) to power my grain mill and it's one of the best homebrew purchases I've made. The thing works great and it only cost a fraction of the price of other options I was considering. I'll definitely buy from them again...

Weird question... is label glue regional?

Based on my limited knowledge of label application systems, here's my theory. Feel free to tell me if I'm way off here: Smaller breweries probably use pressure-sensitive labels because the cost of the labelling equipment is cheaper, although the cost of the labels is higher. The adhesives...

Loose lid primary... move to secondary?

Personally, I'd just leave it alone for another week, then bottle. I'd think you have enough CO2 sitting on top to prevent oxidation. I would leave the lid on and not disturb it, though. By the way, I've bottled many beers (pale ales mostly) after only two weeks in the fermenter with no problems.

    Cycling

Use some cycling-specific lube. There are lots of good ones out there. I'd just go to your nearest bike shop and ask what they recommend. Be prepared for them to recommend a complete tune-up, though (time & money). You should definitely check the tires for cracking before riding. If you...

    I didn't answer the poll because I don't consider myself 40+; more like 50+.

    wrong malt... brew anyway??

I agree with this 100%. Of all the things that can go wrong, this would be the least of my worries for a stout.
