    Kegs from Keg Connection

Ordered two. They were okay, but one of them had plastic inserts that I don't have on my other kegs. They were cruddy, so I tried to use the keg without them, but it leaked. I ended up soaking and scrubbing. They seem to be holding now, but i would sure like to replace those plastic things...

    Hello from Tulare County (California)

I figured there would be some people from Fresno on here. Do you shop Bencomo's much? Wish there was a bigger brew store around. I just got a Crankenstein so I want to get bulk grains.

    Hello from Tulare County (California)

Hi. Anyone from these parts. It would be cool to meet up with someone who could split some bulk orders. I just paid for the membership. I've received too much benefit from these boards not to. Greg

Cost difference betwen AG and extract brewing?

Check out Austin home brewing's web site recipe. There you can choose whether you want the recipe in AG, PM, or extract. It gives a pretty good idea about how much you can save. I can say with confidence that I have already paid for my AG set up. It really does not take long to do that when...

The cure for your short hose troubles

Thought I would just chime and say I've been using these things for a few weeks now, and they are working great for me. I think I am going to go to one and a half, as two slows the beer down a tad too much for me. Thanks for the idea.

Immersion Chiller Leaked Into My Wort

When that happened to me, I got a spoiled batch of beer. However, my case was different, as I was pumping water from a bucket of ice water that wasn't too clean. The pressure popped the hose off and it pumped a bit into the wort when it was closed to fully cooled. Anyway, I learned to make...

Best commercial beer bottles for homebrew

+1 on the Sierra Nevada. They are a tad darker than many other bottles, heavy, and low profile. I have lots of New Belgian, but I don't like them. They are thinner, taller, and lighter color than the Sierra Nevada. The only time I ever broke a bottle while capping, it was a New Belgian...

    Wort Chiller Build

I just did the IC. It seemed the easiest to build. All I did was coil some 1/2 inch copper and clamped hose on both ends. You may be right about the CFC being better. I just always wonder how much it would slow things down when the water is recirculated, though that is the responsible thing...

    Wort Chiller Build

I remember reading something where someone had the RV glycol that circulated through a freezer and to a fermentation chamber where fans blew air across the glycol as it flowed through copper tubing. I remember that well as I tried to (unsuccessfully) convince my wife to let me drill a few holes...

    Wort Chiller Build

I haven't actually timed it, but I'm guessing around 20 minutes or less for 5 gallons. I used to use the hose first, then go to the ice water. Then I decided to try just the ice water, and it went much quicker. The model I have says that it is a 200 Gallon per hour model.

    Wort Chiller Build

What I do is freeze one gallon milk/water containers. I then use a box cutter to cut away the plastic and put the giant ice cubes in a five gallon bucket where I already have a fountain pump. (I got the fountain pump for around twenty bucks at lowes.) I then fill the bucket with water fifteen...
