    Concord grapes

So I just called the source of my clear question- it actually makes a blush wine. He said you have to crush the grapes and then press them. The juice will be a nice color. Onto the sugars. He also said that concord grapes will not be ready to pick until late september around here (Lancaster...

    Concord grapes

so 2 questions remain- I have a hydrometer but do not know the the reading should be for the sugar content? 2nd- has anyone ever made clear grape juice with concords? I will have to call the guy who told me about it. He had a store near state college somewhere but I will have to do some...

    Concord grapes

How do I test sugar content? I have made about 10 batches of homebrew so I at least understand the entire brewing process. I am guessing wine is kind of the same except if takes a good amount longer

    Concord grapes

I need a little help. We have concord grapes and we normally make grape juice from them but I want to make some wine with them this year. We live in Lancaster PA and I am not sure when to pick them. I think we picked at the correct time (we have only been in the house for 3 years) but I am not...

    Mt Hope Homebrew comp

Went there and loved the festival. I entered a sour cherry stout into the comp and I guess it didn't make the cut. I will be making the same again when our cherry trees are producing late jun into July. Had a blast!

Beerfest - Mount Hope Winery (PA Ren Faire) - Lancaster PA - May 9th?

was anyone there when the winners of the homebrew competition were announced? They were not ready to announce when I left at 3. Apparently they took a little longer than expected. Doesn't anything take longer than expected when you drink beer?

    apple kolsch

I did not record the temps because I kept it in my basement so the temps didn't really fluctuate too much. I would would say that it was between 65 and 70 degree in the there. I am not even sure there was that much of a fluctuation between the temps. Would it have that smell if it was high...

    apple kolsch

Update: I added 5 lbs of skinless apples from my tree on 10/13. I left it in secondary for about 3 weeks. I then put it into tertiary around the 1st of November and left it there for another month and half. I bottled on 12/19. I shared a bottle with a fellow homebrewing. There was the smell of...

    apple kolsch

One of my favorite beers is Ephemere also- I love that stuff. I am going to take off the skins (this will also help get rid of any floating yeast that has settled on the apples). I made a banging sour cherry berry beer where I put all the cherries in secondary- it was and is awesome! I am going...

    apple kolsch

I recently brewed a Kolsch (WLP029 German Ale/ Kölsch Yeast) and it took forever to start fermenting but it is moving now. We have an apple tree out back and we are planning to make a bunch of applesauce and I know there will be leftovers. Anyone ever put apples into secondary with a kolsch. I...

    German Ale- Kolsch

So I made a batch of Kolsch because my yeasts due date was up Sept 30. I made the beer on Oct 1 and put the yeast in yesterday- it has not done a thing yet and I have looked inside and nothing has happened. Is my yeast bad? Can I just buy another Kolsch yeast and pitch that??
